Depends on many factors of how the build is put together. The short answer is 15 or 18 starting.

there isn't a limit to bonus you can get on armor w/ dex to a shield or wf'd composite plate?

Just the limits with using a tower shield...

    I'm sorry, i 'm confused..
what does "starting" dex have to be to get the most out of Dex bonus for shields and for adamentine plate or mithril plate for a PURE fighter, including any ac enhacements to this i can take.. i was going to go with 12 and use a tome eventually for dodge.. i plan on being a THF anyways.

For a pure fighter using adamantine plating, 8 starting dex is enough, 10 if you really care about getting every AC point (8+2 tome +6 item =16, fills out the dragon docent with fighter armour mastery 2, 10 starting if you want Fighter AM 3). This is limited by your tower shield (if applicable), which is 2 dex for a normal, 4 for a mithril, and up to 7 with fighter tower shield mastery.

If you are going mithril, then you can use even max dex as long as you spend the feats on mithril fluidity.

Well.. You're posting in the warforged section. So we're assuming you're talking about warforged.

In which case, the only limitations come from the body feats and tower shield usage. Mithril body or Adamantine body, or a mithril tower shield.

And Lithic's post has that covered.

Now, if you are talking about a non-wf fighter, then the discussion moves a little differently. Which could be the case since you mentioned mithril plate and adamantine plate.

If you are going THF, dont worry about AC. You will never get it high enough to compete with the ranger/monk/wusses. To get even close to that you need a tower shield, and then you may as well be replaced in the party by a ranger/monk/wuss because your DPS will be awfull.

    Default I do blieve

I'm gonna roll a pure WF fighter, thf..

I'm more just curious what i have to start w/ dex wise, and what i have to pick for a body feat, to squeeze every ounce of AC out of a character that i don't plan on being a tank, yet will prolly act more of a tank in some of the crappy content / bosses.

if that makes sense.. i'm not trying to be a AC powerhouse.

So what i gather if i include a +2 tome.. is 10 if I go mihtril body to squeeze out every point, unless were counting towershield armor/shield master, where it would be 14 starting.

At the most you should have a 13 or 14 starting so that you can take dodge and a couple of the other enhancments ( Armor Mastery)

I would take the adamantine body feat because that will get the 9 to AC to start. The most that your going to get out of your AC anyway is going to be an Ac of between 34-38 before buffs. With buff's you'll mainly get to about 40-42.

More important I think is to invest in the DR. At level 14 I have a DR 4. It doesnt seem like a lot, but usually Im the last man standing when the fighting gets rough.

I started with STR 16,CON 15 or 16, and a DEX of 14. Now with enhancements and gear and 1 +1 DEX Tome I have a STR of 26,CON of 22, dex of 19, and 350 HP..

15 Dex is the most you should aim for and there is no real minimum. It solely depends on what your build is.

Most likely, 8 Dex will be enough if you are using Adamantine Body.
