If DDO was an FPS - this would be a real-time, full-speed capture...

Sadly, the only ones ignoring this are the Devs.

What are you talking about? I never have lag. Must be your ISP/graphics card. /sarcasm off

If everyone who experiencing lag puts it in their signature, maybe someone somewhere will notice - oh wait, we've been doing that for a week now and still nothing.

Maybe if everyone who experiences lag files a ticket in game that would help. Nope, been doing that too.

I am not a doomsayer, never have been. But I love this game, and I hate that I can't play it. It is sooo frustrating.

    Please Turbine, fix the lag.

this is the killer for me too. i love this game, been playing a long time and still have lots to do with no end of entertainment in sight. i happily pay my money each month. I bought a new puter, upgraded my vid card and my connection. plenty of content for me. no issues with the game at all. but this ****ing lag ******** has got to go. it's totally ridiculous and it is going to kill your product.

whatever you did about 3 months ago changed the lag for the worse. start there.

I don't get it. I do notice the lag but it never makes the game unplayable for me.

I'm playing on a 6 year old comp that is far from uber and really never feel the need to come to the forums and ***** to the dev's about lag.

    Maybe i'm just lucky.......but then again i've never pulled a +2 tome.....

First, you're not on Thelanis, which is the epicenter of lag. Second, you don't play enough to experience lag daily. If you've never pulled a +2 tome and you're a founder then you don't play even a fraction as much as we do.

    Default lag fixing strategy

I pulled this from another lag thread that was probably going to get ignored. This is a good point that we should keep in mind. Most likely, everyone at Turbine reading the forums is on our side. The lag is miserable, and something was done at an administrative level to cause it that the devs and forum people have no control over. As we post over and over about the lag (and we should) our main objective is to give the people reading this the ammunition to take to the higher-ups to fix whatever the heck they did to screw it up in the first place.

On that note. I distinctly remember a singular update when the lag started. Before that, no lag. After, lag. Does anyone remember what exactly it was? Because, honestly, being able to limit the time it started to such a degree makes it very difficult to understand why it couldn't have been fixed by now, other than negligence or interference from high-level administration.

For me, it was the hardware "upgrade" about a month and a half back (if I remember correctly), that was in fact an off-site shuffle of the DDO servers to an inferior and on-the-cheap third party server farm. Before that, the lag would pop up from time to time - particularly in raids - but was manageable. Since then, it's gotten progressively worse until we've gotten to the point where the game is nigh unplayable.

But for me at least - it was when Turbine made the very bad choice to gimp their own game by downgrading our servers. And, depressingly, I don't see any way for them to back out of that choice now... which is why I speculate they are noticeably silent on the issue.

yep the early 2009 timing is about right. used to be just shroud part 1 was laggy for me, after they decided it was a good idea to outsource the server housing to Cooters Puters'N'Stuff the lag is everywhere and unplayable as much as not.

i really really hope that you are wrong about that mem, if they cannot undo this i have serious doubt about the health of our game. how will the lag be when mod9 comes out? will anyone still care about mod9?

the silence thing is pure ****ing ego stupidness from the turbine higher-ups. I know that in my job, if i make a mistake i have to own up to it, and quick. I dont, i lose customers.

I hope so too, bro. I can only hope that the Devs are indeed aware of the issue - but their hands are tied when it comes to publicly speaking about it. As I said, they've been noticeably silent on the issue... but that cane be taken two ways. One: They know about it, and cannot do anything about it. Two: they know about it and are working on a fix they cannot talk about. I'm praying for option two. Because if it's option one... this game is done for.

    Default Hosting problem?

I didn't know that hosting facilities had been changed (and possibly service is now poorer), but it would be easy to believe if for no other anecdotal reason than the long service interruption we had because of the hosting facilities DNS resolution problems about a month ago (I think it was).

While I realize that is probably out of Turbine's control, they definitely have a Service Level Agreement with the host, and if the hosts network cannot provide through-put or service reliabilty to allow Turbine to serve its customers that could be a way to leave the contract. OR, maybe Turbine needs to pay for more bandwidth.

If it's a single-carrier hosting facility (did I read AT&T somewhere?) that's also a problem because if that carrier has network problems locally we're all down. My company uses a hosting facility that has three different carriers to the data center with massive bandwidth capability to prevent this sort of outage.

I absolutely have to believe that Turbine knows whether the lag is hosting-related or not, because it can be tested for. It would be great to know the results of that testing. For now I'll assume that if it is the host, we'll see a move soon, and if we don't see a move it's not the host, but Turbine hardware or software.

I recall (again, this is from memory) a dev post saying this upgrade 1 1/2 months ago of the servers, while not addressing the root of the lag, should help improve the issue. So, I remember the origin of the lag being before that. Either way, if we are really faced with no hope of a lag fix in the future, I am too, for the first time, worried about the game failing.

You are correct. It started after an update that they refused to share any details about.

NO details. What does that tell you?

I've said this many times before: They caused the lag, they know exactly what the problem is, and they apparently have no intention of fixing it.

Suggestion to Turbine: Have new character slots open up automatically based on months since account start date.

i posted in that thread too, but props to tarrant et al for doing just that. and finally is right, man, i feel like we have been posting about lag forever. i am happy to see that all of the lag threads have gotten their attention and if they ask for time to fix it i have no problem with that.

you know this has gotta be frustrating for the devs, they are busting their ass trying to get mod9 perfect and released timely and then BAM (or DING!) there is another huge issue to deal with. we are pulling for yall
