    Default Search skill

Does the Search skill stay "always on" with even one level of Ranger,
or do you have to remain a Ranger for this benefit?

    P.S.
I haven't read of any, but do any other classes get this type of
    benefit for a toggle skill?

    You're a little confused.

There's no such thing as "toggle" skills in DDO- all skills are either passive and on all the time, or active and only work when you hit the icon. None of them can be toggled active (except for Hide and Move Silently, but even they aren't toggled by the skill icon itself). You also might be confusing the results of the Spot and Search skills.

Spot is the passive one that can warn you about traps and hidden monsters, but it won't work on many traps unless you're also a rogue.
Search is the active one that can find traps and secret doors, but it's almost completely useless unless you're also a rogue.

For a ranger to put points in Spot is acceptable, if you can't find something better. But points in Search is a total waste, unless you're planning to train Rogue levels so you can disarm traps.

If your going to stay pure ranger, and not go rogue, search is completly useless because 1) you will get goggles that have true sight on them which wil reveal hidden doors to you and 2) if you dont a find hidden door clicky works just as well 3) if you dont have rogue skills it is completly useless. If I ever get a skill respec I will take all the points I've invested in search and put them into concentration.

For a new player, Spot and Search are nice to have.... Rangers have lots of skill points... I'd put a few points into these... With a high spot, you'll get messages that people with low Spot will not see...

I never once talked about spot, I talked about search. I agree with you, spot is a great skill to have, I particularly like it because you can seen the grey outline of invis'd mobs before they attack. Spot is definetly worth putting points into, search however is not if you don't have rogue skills because there are both common(find hidden door clickys) and rare items(tharns goggles-trueseeing, and sandstorm goggles-trueseeing *If you wear a truee seeing item it will reveal hidden doors to you incase you do not know that) that all trivialize the search skill for a non-rogue.

The reason why search is a waste, OP, is because once the difficulty check (DC) reaches a certain point, it requires rogue class feats to find. So you can toss points into it, but over all I wouldn't worry about doing so.

In this game, the skill of spot, as AD said, is passive. Meaning it is always active.

Search, is an active skill , meaning you have to activate it. You have unlimited times to search, and it takes.. what... 5 seconds or so? There are also some active "abilities" that can be used a certain number of times a rest.

The only "toggles" we have are stances and metamagics. These "toggles" are either on or off. Like Power Attack, Combat Expertise, Maximize, Empower, etc.
