Don't know about PvP, but in regular play, invisibility makes you transparent to other players. THey can still see you, but not well. Monsters supposedly can't see you at all, but they seem to be able to hear you pretty well, and things that break stealth tend to break invisibility as well (opening doors, pulling levers, etc.).

The way I understand it, if you are invisible, mobs will automatically fail their spot check (vs your hide skill) against you. They can still hear you and they will have to roll against your move silently skill if you are mobile.

it was changed a realllly long time ago (probably over 2 years ago now) from being totally invisible to the monsters to being just a +20 to your hide skill. There were far too many exploits from just going invisible and the monsters not having any chance at seeing you. The worst of these was the entrance to VoN3 where everyone would be invisible and run to the end without being seen by any of the trolls, kill the few trolls in the last area to complete the objective and head into VoN3 a lot quicker and easier then intended.

Take note that a lot of mobs can see invisibility.

Yeah, I was using it. It seems pretty much useless. You can never sneak very far, because theres always a lever that you have to pull to get to the next room. Then they see you.
