I liked it. Even with the completely trashed ending that made no sense.

Not going to see it didnt like the comic even a little but glad you enjoyed it.
Beware the Sleepeater
I loved it completly, I don't they trashed the ending at all. They just altered it and it fit perfectly, I think it made more sense that way to be honest. My favorite thing about the movie is they stayed true to its message and all of the characters came shinning through

Grimbite Goblin Muncher, King of Storm Cleave.
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I say the ending was trashed because it makes no sense in any way. Why would the world unite WITH the USA when an American born, created, and trained superhuman weapon that they had brandished at the world for half a century supposedly decided to go ape **** and start killing people? They would unite AGAINST the USA, no matter that new york was destroyed also. The ending in the graphic novel made perfect sense because the fake enemy presented to the world is a complete alien unknown. People know Doc M, he has been studied, watched, no matter that he is god like in his powers and that he is a terrifying reality for that world, the threat he would represent would not be so soul shattering in its terror because he is a know quantity. The unknown threat of an alien invasion is waht was needed to make the superpowers set aside conflict to work together to prepare for an invasion that would never come.
But I respect you opinion, and I understand why it was changed. It is a mass released movie after all and a lovecraftian alien thing is not what a lot of people would like to see at the end of a movie like that.
Most violent film ever?
Loved the first 3/4.
Last quarter seemed rushed. The ending wasn't as shocking as in the book. I don't know how else they could have done in tbh with the comic book having an 'anti-Holywwod ending'.
I think the movie also had a very anti holywood ending... it was the SAME ending lol
EDit: Well the outcome was the same
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roschachs journal was found and presumably printed and the world will die in a nuke holocaust. same just no manufactured alians

I disliked it. There was just too much many dangling blue superhero members in the middle of the screen for my liking. The movie was flashback crazy. I guess if your into dark morbid alternate reality fantasy its for you. I went to see it not having any knowlege of the comic so I didnt have any preconcieved notions or bias.
Just my opinion.
So looks about 50/50ish.
Was planning on waiting for $1 @ Redbox showing anyway.![]()
I loved it, even without having read the graphic novel (which I'm gonna do soon, just got it).
I'll probably end up seeing it again when my housemmate figures out when he wants to go.

I just got home from seeing this myself about 5 hrs ago. My friends and I all liked or loved it depending on who you asked.
The story:
Was indeed altered, for Alan Moore and some other purists this may be unforgivable. However I think the changes that were made, made sense to do in the year 2009 for a movie adaptation of the book. A few things didnt make it in, most of these things are minor to the overall story. I enjoyed sitting there for 2:45 hrs and watch the book I read in january come alive.
I was a worth tribute to the book IMO.
The Action:
5 mins into the movie was the most awesome fight scene Ive seen in a long while. I leaned over to my friend and said to him "when the day comes that I have to die, this is how I wanna go. and I would smile the whole way down." Choreography was great, there wasnt a lot of action but what they gave was very satisfying.
The sex scene:
OMG the Silk Spectre II is HOT! I want an Owlship and a costume like hers for my girlfriend (just the boots mostly)
The Acting:
At times they sounded uncomfortable when delivering classic lines from the book. Like they were trying so hard to read the exact line that they lost touch with the emotion behind the line. It was noticable to me at several points but mostly (about 80% of the time) it was not an issue.
The ending: (very light spoilers if you know nothing about this movie)
was changed because what worked in 1985 just doesnt fly in 2009. What they did was very good, in keeping with the original idea and surprised me despite hearing the rumors and even seeing the clues throught the movie. I believe that if alan moore himself wrote the story today as opposed to 20 yrs ago he would have done something very similiar to this. I also like the fact that Night Owl saw what he saw and did what he did. I think a friend would have done the same or more. If it were me I would have vented my fury and I dont know if Ozy would have lasted that long, likely he might have and I truly felt his remorse for everything but he saw it as a neccessary evil.
My Rating:
As a movie it left me wanting to see it again to look at all the background goings on. There was just so much for the eyes to take in and I only have two.
5 stars but dont take your girlfriend if shes not into it
As a purist-lite, I understand why Alan Moore didnt want his name attached to it. writers are very protective of their work and stuff was changed, no doubt about that. I kept waiting for the eggs and sugar cubes but didnt see em. A few things evolved quicker than it should have and other things never happened at all. As a fan but not super hard core Id give it a 4 - 4 1/2 whereas a hardcore purist may give it a 3. To give it a 3 I would really have to nit pick every scene that wasnt panel for panel like the book.
A final word:

I thought the movie was pretty good... even the ending. Really, I don't think it could have ended any better.
My friends girlfriend said it best, " I liked the movie, but it wasn't good"
what she meant was that as a fan of the book, it was great to see characters on the big screen and see the comic panes come to life, but all in all the movie itself just wasn't that great.
I think the movie did a good job bringing the comic to the big screen, however I think it failed in one huge point. For me, the story of the comedian is what brought the book together. He's the character that tied all the other characters together someway, and I think the movie did a really bad job at conveying that.
My finance never read the book, and she had a tough time following along with the various stories, and I think it's because the movie didn't use the comedian to connect all the stories in a way.
Just my thoughts.

I've read the comic several times, the last being no less than a month ago. I'd have to say they did a fantastic job of bringing the comic to life. The few minor changes, the ommissions and the ending made sense to me. I'm even on the edge of thinking the movie ending was better than the comic. I think it works because the perception the movie gives of Dr. M is that he becomes detached from humans/humanity, so it really makes no difference that he is American. He doesn't see the world as Americans, Russians, etc.. I also think Haley did a great job of playing Roschach.

Yes, it was his "flaming" speech at the Crimebuster meeting that set the entire plot in motion, by convincing Veidt that someone needs to do something. His other key rants (in Vietnam and in the Minuteman club) were also shortchanged. Critics say that the actor was capable of it, but he wasn't given the chance.
That's why the TV show was better.

I don't think he should have either, BUT I think it works just as well seeing as how he was drifting so far awar from humanity (Even the americans) and the entire world showed awe and fear and this unkown Blue Being... think the emotion towards him was nearly the same as it would be towards a giant brain alian popping up in the city dead.

I just got back from watching on the IMAX and I thought it was great.
My GF had no prior knowledge of it (other than I told her it was set in an alternate 1985 and the cold war was still rocking strong) and she really enjoyed it also.

yeah the "movie" takes place in 85' but the veiwing audience is in 2009. What Im saying is, that for me had I read this book back in 1989 I would have said "man thats cool, they geneticly altered a squid to look like a giant space alien and gave it psionic powers" but I was a different person then and they were different times. I only read the book this january for the 1st time and I absolutely head over heels loved it. Loved it in a way u can only love your 1st broadway play/ performance youve ever seen. It was mind expanding, like when I saw Sweeney Todd or The wizard of Oz on stage as a kid. It changes you forever, I am a different person for having experienced all of it.
BUT..... the ending of the book, while I loved the message, the alien felt weird. Kinda like watching old Herculoids cartoons. You thought it was pretty cool then, but today, not so much.
***more spoilers here and Im less careful about it so just skip the rest if you must***
Dr. Manhattan taking the blame was logical. The enemy needed a face that wasnt human and he was as far from human as anything on the planet could be at the time. Had it been Veidt or terrorists the impact and terror would not be as great. Knowing that this Blue creature, who allegedly had the ability to give those around him cancer and seemingly didnt care, could cause this sort of destruction to everyone at the same time is truly terrorfying.
No one is safe from him and Nixon ran to other countries for help in stopping him. The world united in a common cause to end his threat. His abscense will weaken the effect they intended over time and of course with Rorshaschs notes out there Dr. Manhattans last words will prove correct. "Nothing ever ends"

I was thinking of taking the GF when I see it for the second time but really never having read the books I dont think she will like it. The story will confuse her. The sex and violence will either excite or offend her, maybe both, so Im like ........ why bother, just chalk it up to "Never mind sweety, its just my guy stuff"
worth a shot if I can get her in those darn boots tho![]()
