I have both types of clerics in question.

One is a 14/2 elf cleric/monk, the other is a 16 dwarf with a ton of hp and sp.

Honestly, they both get the job done.

The dwarf has more offensive casting power because of higher spell pen, and more spell points.

The elf takes less damage than the dwarf because of high ac and evasion.

The dwarf has the hp to soak up more damage, but has to self heal a bit more than the elf.

They both heal well, although for raiding the elf is more expensive. With less sp for healing, offensive casting, and buffs, he uses more scrolls and drinks more manna pots than the dwarf. The dwarf rarely drinks manna pots. A halfing with the marks would most likely solve this problem. I decided to go elf in case they ever implement whirling steel strike. I would then respec him into a twf battle cleric dual wielding longswords.

The elf is also a pain in the butt to find gear for if you want to remain centered. No using the Lorikk's shield on a monk for example. Caster kamas are pretty rare as well, so the elf has to pull out a superior potency quarterstaff when needed to remain centered. The dwarf doesn't have to worry about any of these things.

I enjoy both of them, but do feel the dwarf is the more powerful character due to superior offensive casting. The elf is superior at melee, but only because I built him that way.

Face it, the Capstone sucks. Isnt UMD and Evasion worth a couple hundred spellpoints and the ability to "Save your party memebers from dying" via turn attemps?

Play your cards right and you can even have solid rogue skills.. or at least Open lock.

Or go CLR/Monk. Couple extra feats, evasion, some nifty stances, ability tohit some of the highest AC marks in the game.....

with the cap going up, the 18/2 Cleric/Evasive is going to be highly sought after.
I disagree. I think going pure human cleric is the way to go. You just need to play smarter when you don't have evasion. Everyone turns to evasion because it makes life easier. Dump out the evasion, grab the capstone, grab the extra human feat and call it a day.

Hint: the devs did say there would be more capstones in the future. Maybe the next one will be more to what you are looking for.
Rule number one, never follow Wobert. Rule number two, never listen to Wobert.

    yes

Evasion is not replaced by anything else. I'm talking survivabilty , not comparing power levels of multi-class to pure class. Just survivability. This may be even more so apparent with Mordenkainen's Dysjunction being in Mod 9.

Yeah but not everyone has crazy twitch skills either (or manges to find every stuck spot in the game....).

There are a lot of upsides to pure class, the downside is you lag a second, or get accidental agro at the wrong time...and 500 points of fireball damage coming your way = dead cleric.

I am all about making life easy.....and evasion trumps hit points by a long shot.

Maybe the next cleric capstone will be some cool battle cleric one - better divine power, extra str or attacks or something. they sure need it, as clerics are supposed to be able to deal out the 'wrath of god'...not just hide and heal.
