It was the fact the puller said "up for roll" and then obviously gave the item to someone who didn't win the roll.
That does sound like a nicer way for it to have gone down. This is a game though and I don't think we need threads as serious as this just because one person forgot to apologize. No one was shot killed or robbed here.

I actually saw someone lose some loot this weekend in a very similar way. I believe it was verbally put up for role. 3 people rolled. The loot (glacier gloves) were then given to the sorc who rolled in the middle between two clerics. I totally support that decision. The person who put it up for role had incorrectly assumed that the sorc already had them. Some verbal apologies were made but it still stings to lose.

I also saw an evasion paladin loot the VOD full plate on sunday. That sure must have stung to the non-evasion fighters in the group. Way it goes - you'll see that loot again.

If people want to only have their guildies roll on their loot, then so be it. That's not how we handle loot in my guild, but I'm not here to tell people what to do with their pulls.

I think people should just be a little more upfront about their intentions instead of attempting some clandestine maneuver like they did.

You'll pull the goggles another day .
I'm sorry that you had that experience. Balk is one of our officers, and I'm pretty proud that, while we have a system for raiding, it really pretty much comes down to need before greed. And honestly, that holds pretty true whether it is a guild run or a PUG.

Just the other night in a TF I pulled the gyro boots on my halfling mutt who already has the striders and balance more than covered. There were several guildies in the run who wanted them but agreed with me to offer them up to whoever wanted to roll on them as they were the only loot that dropped. As luck would have it one of the guildies rolled a 97 and took home a nice set of new shoes, but I would have been fine with anyone winning them that had the need.

That's all there was to it, sorry about the rolls and what not but again, any raid loot that you pull is yours to do what you want with it no?
... I don't disagree with you, until you say you are offering it up for a roll. Then what you chose to do with it was chosen... and it should have been honored ...

Again, this was not from what I have heard a clandestine operation. It's your loot and you have the right to make mistakes like accidentally putting something up for roll.

As far as I'm concerned, you also have the right to put it up for roll and then establish conditions based on class or any other personal preferences afterwards.

I think it'd be a little more gentlemanly if you "established conditions based on class or any other personal preferences" before people rolled on the item .

It sure would be, but I reserve the right not to in the interest of saving time. It's hard enough to get the loot into the right people's hands before others start to recall and drop quest, thus increasing the chance that it gets left to someone who's not even in the quest.

I was in a VoD run where two pairs of gloves dropped. I gave mine to the other cleric since noone else wanted them. I rolled on the bard cloak for the +6 CHR since the bard already had a +6 CHA item. What I failed to notice was the +15 perform skill on the cloak. I won the roll but when it was brought to my attention reguarding the +15 perform skill I gave it to the bard (he rolled a 1). In return he traded me his other +6 CHR cloak. It was a good run and the cloak is better used by the bard. I might have miss read the item but I made sure it when to the right person in the end. It was a good run for everyone.

Finding a trap is not the same as spotting a trap

I am going to quit rolling my unwanted raid loot and start auctioning it off to highest bidder for extra plat!

Yeah, if I was going to be "taken care of" by a guild leader, I'd pick Babygirl over Eightball every single time!
