    Default Greater Shout?

    Hi all
    Finally had my Sorc hit 16, grabbed Polar Ray, and it's kinda underwhelming (seems to do about half of heightened disintegrate damage for same sp's) I'm guessing that if I had the proper equipment it'd be cool, but I don't so..

    Looking at the other lvl 8 spells- anyone have any xp with greater shout?
    (Or admittedly, if I really need to save Polar ray for something let me know)

    You need the glaciation set to improve upon Polar Ray. I really like Horrid Wilting personally, especially for bats. Really, though you should reroll this toon as a wizard.

    You might get the equipment for it someday. But even if not, polar ray is probably better b/c there will be some fire elementals/mobs later on in the game that polar ray works pretty well on, even w/o the equipment.

    Greater Shout is ok, but the only use for it really is the stun effect, which doesn't work on red names, and the mobs you'd like to use this on later have a high fort save and resist it decently.

    I'd stick w/ polar ray.

    Gonna be helpful or not? Not everyone wants to make all casters into wizards. Sorcerers have their advantages, especially as mystic cannons.

    polar ray doesn't have a save; it may be unimpressive on random trash, but cast 20 disint and 20 polars at arraetrikos and see which works better

    unavoidable damage spells rock; this is why sorching ray is good, too

    20 cap, this will be THE damage spell. Since a lot of mobs are immune to fire now anyway. So I do not believe meteor swarm will be that great

    Also who knows if Sup Pot IX will even be available? Maybe raid loot if we are lucky.

    Sup Pot VIII will be available if the trend continues and no save on the spell makes it VERY appealing.

    Maybe switch it out to test some other spells but once the cap is raised grab onto it again.

    yes polar ray doesnt do as much damage as dis but it HAS NO SAVE which makes it nice

    Greater Shout is one of the few spells that works on Frost Giants.

    Just a thought.

    The problem with Greater shout is it;s flagged as a damage spell but does CRAPPY damage, this mean it;s good effect is the stun and the stun while short is very NICE but because of the damage part max/emp effect it and make it a VERY expensive short term CC spell unless you turn them off, for me it;s NOT worht that hassle.

    Sunburst has soem nice uses against undead and the blind is purty decent i hear.

    Iresistable dance is FUN but touch range makes it anoying.

    Polar Ray has no SAVE, that is REALLY key against stuff liek harry, (shroud boss), who has strong saves, adn on higher diffs evation makign CoC pointless. Polar ray is also elmental damage meanign you cna crit more and harder with it. yes at base against stuf that often faills distigrate save it sucks, but stuff 2 parts of the glac set OR DT armor glac8 on it and it will already be at leats tieing Distigrate if not supassign it on everything it effects, get the full 3 part glac set and blamo it will be on of your main go to damagae spells...
    Also it ROCKS Fire Elementals and other cold weak mobs.

    Yes- I had completely forgotten about the save vs Disintegrate (tested on vale trash, so it didn't get resisted)

    I'm sure your all thrilled to know you've helped me decide to keep Polar Ray.

    I really like greater shout - it has no SR check so it cuts through half of a mob's save attempts right there. Devils is a great example where it can be the ultimate CC - just immobilizing everything. So yes I am a fan and would definitely recommend. After web, it is probably the CC spell I use the most.

    Aye shout works good but don;t you find it expensive as all heck for a short term CC spell Or do you cycle emp/max on/off constantly?

    I like greater shout on my wiz.
    Good way to damage and cc at the same time, and works on things other cc doesnt. Also, like horrid wilting is good for mobs with evasion.
    Polar ray, Greater shout and ottos irresistable are usually my 3 main lvl 8 spells

    My sorc on the other hand doesnt use this.... being acid/lighting spec he uses ottos irresistable dance.

    If i was fire/cold spec on my sorc i would probably still use ottos until i got the glaciation set. Force missiles work almost as well as polar ray on harry anyway... and cost less sp.

    The places I use it either a) shroud part 2 where mana isn't really relevant or b) places like Devils where yes I just turn max/emp off until the end fight.

    Greater shout does require a SR check on the stun part, just like shout does. Although the damage part it doesn't require a SR check, but the damage it does with the sp required to cast make it really not cost effective. Not to mention, even if you can bypass the SR check, they're going to make the fort save. If you're fighting something not making the fort save and SR check, might as well simply throw in a finger.

    Finger is not AOE - now once wail of the banshee is around you will have ... somewhat... of a point. Except SR, again. And mobs with deathward of course.

    I think Greater Shout is an excellent Bard spell, or Wizard spell...but Sorcs can do better with Polar Ray (Boss and Crystals) or Dance (mobs that are wacking on you.)

    I saved up 30 Dance scrolls (8th level) and let loose with them the other day on my sorc. SR only stopped a few of them. The rest were dancing Orthons....so that can be quite fun if you are used to getting a Halbard in the head, and want to put a stop to it.
