Default Food for thought to the players and Turbine

    Hi there

How viable and popular the idea of changing DDO world into that of the Forgotten realms.

There are ways to do it without breaking the immersion of course.

Will this generate more sales, player base increase?

    To the community
How popular is this idea with our current player base?
It will be interesting to see a poll on that subject.

    To Turbine
The bottom line in addition to making a great game is making money.
This is where your marketing staff gets to earn their pay 
Will it be more viable to invest in such a venture?
You might loose some players who oppose this idea, but overall in the grand scheme of things will it be better for the game?
How many more subscriptions will this generate?

Yes, this is a big thing. One day I was thinking, “if only this was the FR I would be sooo much more into it then I am now.”

This is feasible, being a developer myself, question is does the budget allocated to it worth investing?

    Food for thought

P.S: already as a side project I am starting laying out the action plan for doing such a venture.

    Cheers

    It is not.

The two to three problems with that idea are:
    1. Wizards of the Coast are probably the ones who pressured Turbine in selecting Eberron. It would probably be hard to persuade them to allow a switch to FR.
    2. It means to start over, delete most quests and finding new storyline that fits FR.
      • FR is a more 'complete' setting with a lot less place for creativity.
    3. The rights to make a FR game are owned by Bioware.

    It will never happen

Certainly not worth the effort and cost. Even for a DDO2, I doubt it'd be a good idea.

I love the FR setting (how I run it anyway, without a great deal of that silly godsfall nonsense) It is by far my favourite.

I'm happy DDO is in Eberron. I'd never played Eberron before and was very opposed to it initially, but now I kinda like it.

So its opened some new avenues for me.

Personally though, I would have set it in Dragonlance from a pure popularity and coolness factor - Krynn has all the most widely known NPCs (certain Drow excepted ) and has the whole Dragon Saga that would be pretty hard to beat as a D&D game setting.

I can definitely see how they went with Eberron though, from both a business and creative choice. Turbine, WoTC and DDO are all enmeshed in Eberron now and with any other major campaign setting it wouldn't be as much "theirs" as Ebrron is.

I'd just like to see them delve more into bringing some life to the world. The Draconic Prophecies storyline is actually very good but players just whizz through the very brief text that rarely appears about it.

Perhaps that's what you feel is missing that you want from Toril - a sense of world. And I'd agree.

I'll keep the (still amazing) SSI games, Baldurs and NWN for FR please.
    DDO for Eberron.

It'd be very cool to visit the Dragon Sea or The Sword Coast for sure, but Eberron has interesting places like that too. The Mournlands and Aerenal are very intriguing.

Is it just that you want to be in familiar surroundings of FR or is there some specific thing(s) about Eberron you dislike?

(plus everything Bor mentioned is pretty spot on too)

Will this generate more sales, player base increase? Doubt it.

How popular is this idea with our current player base? Bad idea. FR has been done and done. Eberon at least has room for new and unique without everyone whining that A or B shouldn't be done in such a way. What they really should have done was gone for thier own unique campaign setting, like the best DMs do.

How many more subscriptions will this generate? zero

It probably wouldn't generate any more sales, maybe a couple, not enough to be worth the investment.

With the way that Greenwood and the rest utterly destroyed the FR campaign setting just because WotC introduced a new edition, I wouldn't want to play in FR anymore, anyway.

Well expanding the world would be a possibility . Say travelling to the Distant Lands of GreyHawk (my Favorite PnP Series) From Eberon. It Would Just be Getting the Trademarks to all be Apart off DDO. Which in Reality they Have all worked together to some extent to get D&D to where it is today

They would have to spend more to gain the license to the setting than they would earn from subscriptions.

Aside from that, FR was one of the worst setting available. No need for characters because every other corner you turned had a hero NPC that could take care whatever issue arose.
