Stuck at "Getting Alerts and News"

Hello everyone, new to the DDO scene, but I have played EQ2, WoW, and many other mmo's for a long, long time, and love them all. Having played Lotro for a year and a half, I came into this with high expectations, only to be slightly delayed. I hope there is a fix for this, otherwise I am going to be writing this off as a WOM (Waste of Money). I installed the game, and after installing, booted it up, and lo and behold, I get stuck at the splash screen, even before it gets into the launcher itself at "Getting Alerts and News". Everytime....if there is a a fix for this, please let me know, I would really like to play this game a lot. Thanks, Atreyubeat.

Getting the same thing. Just loaded the game off the disc after being away since release. Kinda annoying that I decide to give the game another shot, only to have it hang before it even starts.

Got mine to work. Reinstalled the game, but did a couple things differently this time around:

1. When I originally installed the game, I installed it in a custom directory (I like to have all my games in c:\games\<game directory>). I had installed it as c:\games\DDO. Can't imagine that'd matter, but on the second install I just let it go to its default.

2. The first time around, I'd also run the program in Administrator mode. UAB off. Per BGP's recommendation, the second time around I didn't run the game in Admin mode.

recently built a new rig intel core 2 duo 2.8 ghx cpu 9800gtx+ gpu 4 gigs 1066 ddr2 ram, evga 750i mother board, and have vista 64 bit installed, i used easy transfer and copied my ddo files from my old xp box to the new machine, and it hangs on the splash screen every time. have since tried downloading the client from turbine and installing again, twice thus far both without setup2.bin(which is quite annoying, currently on my third attempted download) also tried using my old cds, which were from before mod 2, and it glitches in exactly the same place. UAC is off, the box under compatability for run as admin isnt even checkable let alone checked, i have installed framework 1.1 and the hotfix for it. i got nothing, but im losing my freaking mind here.....if anyone can help pls do

well i didnt try anything different than was mentioned, turned off the uac and made sure not to run as admin, but it was still hanging on the splash screen, what i managed to do however was to click on the icon in the task bar and select options and tell it not to use the splash screen, has worked great ever since....not sure why this worked but who knows...
