    Default Build Help

I was toying around with the idea of making a Paladin/Fighter build and needed help. Is it ideal to have an even split between these two levels or would I only need a few levels of Fighter and put the rest into Paladin. Can I get some help in what feats I should be taking or level enhancements. I wanted to have a self buffing offensive Fighter/Paladin that uses Bastard swords.

    Thanks

I'd either go 18 Paladin/2 Fighter, or just 20 Paladin.

Most Paladin/Fighters are made for tanking. Fighter allows intimidate as a class skill and gives you tower shield proficiency for free. Combine that with the upcoming Defender of Siberys prestige enhancement, and you have a good tank.

Since you're wanting to go offensive, you may want to go pure Paladin for the lvl 20 Capstone enhancement. I like the enhancement more than the 2 extra feats (although you could definitely put those 2 feats to good use) that you get from the fighter levels (plus your smites will do more damage ).

What race do you want to be? I'd probably suggest human if you want to use bastard swords. If you want to be offensive; you pretty much have to go two weapon fighting.

Do you have 32 point builds? Drow?

I agree with Balkas...If you want a defensive tank with limited offensive capabilty then go for a Defender with a 18 Paladin / 2 Fighter split. We still don't know in the next mod if this type of character is needed or not, and I suppose we'll have to wait for mod 9 to come out. They are putting this prestige class into the game, so you would think it will be useful, but sometimes you can never tell.

If you want offense, then go pure paladin. If you want a bit more survivability at the expense of some DPS then you can splash 2 monk levels for two extra feats and evasion. If you want a bit more utility at the expense of a bit of DPS then splash 2 Rogue for evasion, UMD and some extra skill points.

Definitely go TWF on an offensive build. You will be disappointed any other way.

My thf warforged paladin takes exception to this.

Two weapon fighting will be nice. But different weapons for different needs. Exaulted smites for 500+ damage is very nice.

This is my main, which is a very fun, very utilitarian build. At lvl 20, will have DoS II as well as tempest I. Great DPS, great UMD, can pick locks but not do much else rogue-wise.

    Here's what I would do...

    Drow

Str 16 <- All stat bonuses.
Dex 16 (You'd have to eat a +1 Dex Tome by lvl 6)
    Con 12
    Int 10
    Wis 8
    Cha 16

    1) Fighter - Two Weapon Fighting, Bastard Sword Proficiency
    2) Paladin
    3) Paladin - Oversized Two Weapon Fighting
    4) Paladin
    5) Paladin
    6) Paladin - Improved Two Weapon Fighting
    7) Paladin
    8) Paladin
    9) Paladin - Improved Critical: Slashing
    10) Paladin
    11) Fighter - Greater Two Weapon Fighting
    12) Paladin - Power Attack
    13) Paladin
    15) Paladin - Extend
    16) Paladin
    17) Paladin
    18) Paladin - Toughness
    19) Paladin
    20) Paladin

If you want to focus on DPS, you should probably take Knight of the Chalice, although I like the versatility of Defender of Siberys. The last 3 feats can pretty much be taken in any order you prefer.
