Default Hirelings of SPECIALIST classes.. ranger, bard and rogue

EVERYONE wants rogue hirelings avaible , and we can all see why.

But also a bard or ranger hireling would be very useful.

For the 4 user abilities, all bards would have 1 to 2 bard songs available. and 2-3 spells

Rangers of level 4+ would have spells available also, and some boost enhancements speed boost, etc

    <sarcasm on>

    I totally agree.

Many an evening, I have been frantically searching the 'Who' list, looking for a Ranger to fill out a party. Why oh why doesn't anyone want to play a Ranger?

Um.... be careful speaking for "Everyone"

There plenty of rangers to go around.

a Rogues job is so diverse, it would never work well as a NPC. I wouldnt want a Rogue Hireling at all.

Bards? Might be nice, but again, I can live without it.

yeah of course you dont think you'd get a party without it, but thats wrong... hireling clerics are around but that doesnt mean player clerics dont get parties..

no, thats not it at all..... Theres no real reason to have those classes. What do youreally think it would add to the game?

There are no obsticles inany quests where a trap or lock prevents you from Completion.....

Bards? Well, They can do a multitude of things.. I suppose the buiffs would be nice, but certainly not necessary, and rangers? Well, I think we have plenty of melee availabale.

it's not about necessity really, it's about variety, and a hireling of one class or another may well round a party out.

Disagree I dont use them at all and if they do add any I want them to wait until they add druids and then only add them to the list. If bard in the party(usually I do) I want one controlled by a person samething with a ranger or rogue.

You might not, but I sure as hell would. I managed to get one Rogue in our group last night (for hours of playing in a full group), and we clung to him for dear life. Without them, you miss a lot of side quests, chests, shrines and then you get pummeled by traps. They're one of the most useful classes, and I rarely see them. Even if I have to click on Search and Disable Trap each time for the hireling, I know where to look and it'd be extremely useful.

By this logic there isn't any need for any hirelings.

I came back because I wanted to try out the hirelings. My brother and I mostly Duo so that put a damper on us completing most of the quests. We tend to play Melee and magic characters so a rogue and cleric are needed to fill out our party. But without the rogue being available it's pretty much forcing one of us to play a rogue for the added content.

IMHO there is no need for hirelings. This is a socially interactive game.. If you want to play with robots go get a regular pC game.. Not an MMORPG

I think that a post about adding in rogue/bard hirelings should not be derailed by opinions about hirelings in general. It's a little disrepsectful to someone trying to voice what they consider a valid point. Just my 2 cents.

Truth be told, not everyone is as popular as you are Boldrin. There are plenty of times I log in and there's nobody to group with on my pure fighter. I couldn't do much without a pocket cleric, but with it I can solo in the vale until my buddies log in.

Now as for the OP. I do think that a variety of hirelings is good. Bards might be really popular since they can both heal and cast haste. I have mixed feelings about rogue hirelings because I think the traps shouldn't be dealt with by an npc, just doesn't seem right. It's bad enough that the trap locations and boxes are in the same place every time.

Since traps are crafted custom made for the module, it's hard for them to be made different each run through a mission. (though some missions do spawn a trap in 1 of 2 locations)

The control box location though could very easily be randomized through say 1 of 3 locations so you'll always be guessing. Though in time even those locations will be known by a character who's played through that mission a lot, but some element of the unknown (which place is it? or is my search skill high enough?) will always mix it up.

As for rogue hirelings, I say why not? humans are always going to trump hirelings in most cases anyway.

in pen & paper d.m's are always having to run npc rogues when there isnt a player who wants to hold the torch, our party would hire one, knowing that with that came the chance they'd betray you or steal from you as well :0 All part of the fun.

Keeping the hireling rogue alive long enough to be useful will be a challenge all it's own.

I do want to play with people. Actually one person. My brother lives in Alabama and I live in Texas. We like to get online and play. Neither of us enjoys pugs and too many quests require more than two people. We thought hirelings would give us a way to come back to DDO and play. Unfortunately unless one of us always wants to be a rogue it pretty much hasn't changed.

I remember when our TT groups would sometimes meet without certain players and we would have to have an NPC in the party. I guess the DM should have said well you can have anything but a bard, rogue, ranger....

I think my brother really wants to come back but to me I feel just as disappointed as I was with the release (yes, I was a pre-order). I guess, like the TT version, Wizards has totally screwed up a great game.

Then why are all other classes available as Hirelings ? There are lots of players playing them as well.

Regarding Rogues : I have decided for myself to buy a gold seal Rogue Hireling just for the Bookinder Rescue and for Repossession. These two quests are just awful (especially the latter one) to solo without Rogues.
"You are a Tiefling. And a Cleric, with the Domain of the Sun. Doesn't that contradict each other ?" "No, all my friends are playing evil. I found that so boring that I decided to be on the good side. And, besides, Sun and Fire, where is the difference, really ?"

    Wow - A 12 Year Necro!

    Arise Dead Thread

P.S. Rangers are nowhere near as common today as they were in 2009 but we still only have ONE Ranger Hireling - Lvl 24, Tarlov Snowtrack.

    Why not more?

It's not like Tarlov's OP or anything - The only Hirelings I actually use in Epics are Albus {FvS 20}, Garret {FvS 25}, Lilo {Rog 21} and Iessin {Rog 24}.

The Lvl 22 and 23 Rogues are actually WORSE than the Lvl 21 who's as good at trapping as the 24 - The Lvl 21 is of course a Mech whilst the Lvl 22 and 23 are Acrobats!

We do still need Rogue Hirelings of Lvl 25+ as Lilo and Iessin can't do EHs past Sands without Greater Heroism cast on them and even then you're pushing it for 3bc/Gianthold and you can forget it for higher level stuff.

Basically for newer post Epic Levels Epic quests other than Borderlands the Rogue Hirelings are useless past EN!

Cassandra {Lvl 22} can open doors and locked none-named chests in EE Borderlands but Open Locks doesn't have a fail condition and you have an extra 20 points on the Dice to play with - Plus she's an Acrobat so a Dex Build.

    -
Lvl 1-20 Rogue Hirelings should NOT be AS/DDOStore only - We should be able to buy them with PLAT! Many solo players will still need a Healer hire anyway so they're gonna have to use AS or Store Points if they want both!

There really is no reason not to have Ranger hires in the game.
