Default Please fix Death By Mouse

/using a dual stick [Saitek] and mouse combo, ymmv

Death By Mouse: you slide your mouse cursor over a hotbar to activate an item or skill. If you leave the cursor on the hotbar, you can't attack. And if you can't "find" your mouse in time [ie locate the itty bitty cursor and move it off a dead zone like hotbar/viewscreen/chat screen] you die. And look really stupid doing it.

Please fix this. Its the only flaw in DDO that has me screaming profanities at the screen at 2AM. Don't do it for me, do it for my poor neighbors

So if you still attack while hovering over your clickies, how do you plan on activating your clickies?

I'm not sure what that set-up is like but I know I hit those dead zones as well.
I don't find it that big of a deal though. I don't leave my cursor on my hot bars and I generally know where the cursor is and which way it should be moved to get it off the hot bars to attack again.

Unless there is something I don't know about playing with that set-up I don't ever find it a big deal and not worth a change.

I have this problem as well. I like to keep 3 chat windows up and find the deadspace very annoying especially when the windows are invisible. I have never died because of it though.

    Huh? Sorry, don't follow.

Yup, but for me "generally" means that when I try to knock the mouse off the deadspace, it falls into another dead space about half the time.

If every time you hit the attack button you "Attack" then how do you hit your clickies? You cant activate a clicky AND attack at the same time. Its the same button on the mouse.

Oh I see what you mean. No, I come from 8 years of Mechwarrior, so I'm still using what I'm most familiar with - dual stick [Saitek] and mouse combo. All my movement and attacks, weapon groups, and most spells & clickies are slaved into the stick. I attack by using the trigger on the stick, not the mouse.

Hey, if there's a better way to do this without losing the stick, pls advise.

Or at least a way to change the mouse shape without adding new skins - that sucker is really hard to locate with all the background noise, especially in melee.

Ah, ok, i see now... I use hotkeys so often I guess I didnt realize attack and use clicky were indeed separate mouse clicks....

    Default possible solution

It sounds like maybe the trigger on your stick thing is mapped to a mouse click. You might be able to program the stick to map the trigger to an obscure keyboard key and then assign that key in-game to do one of the attack functions at the top of the keymapping within the game options.

edit - looks like Single Attack is what you want. Another good option is to map the trigger to Interact as that will attack what you have targetted, or any other function depending on your target such as use lever or pick up gems.

Actually its something that changed when they added the mmo interact, etc key mapping options. Before then it didnt matter....after that it did--if you leave your cursor over the hotbars, you cant single attack until its back in the open portion of the screen.

I play with a game console, not a mouse as im not twitchy enough to be able to do it any other way....its not so bad on the few fighters i play but it sucks when i try to swing at anything on my clerics or casters lol....cast spell, remember to move cursor back up,,,swing, cast spell...and yeah i occassionally lose my cursor too and its a pain.....ive just learned to run when that happens until i find it again lol

This is a feature that feels more like a bug to me as well.

It didn't used to be this way, and it is often the explanation for why I run into combat and.... do nothing.

I play the game 95% with my keyboard (movement, attacks, spells, etc. are all selected via keyboard). But if my mouse cursor is not somewhere on the screen, my attack key is disabled.

Is there a way to set this back to the way it used to be?

One example I find is when turning on auto-attack... I'll get into the state the OP describes and miss out on some swings, or more than some if I mis-click.

    Hi,

I'm one of Fen's neighbors, posting on his account. We live down the street and are constantly awakened by banshee-like screeches that chill us to the bone and lower our property values.

Yesterday our baby said her first words, something close to "fraggin *!@%%! frell mouse".

    Please fix this.

    Thanks
    Bob
