Volume normalizers are notoriously ineffecient. I worked, professionally, in audio for 12 years dealing with live audio and studio recording as well as pre-and-post-production. Just listen to the iPod songs and then listen to them on a real stereo (properly outfitted of course) and you will probably notice much missing from the 'normalized' iPod versions that are present in your real CD versions. The data is there, the normalizers just tweak things poorly due to automation as opposed to hands-on action. Individual sliders are both easy to implement and would prove more effective.

You might want to review the definition of the word "effecient". Maybe the definition of "normalize" too.

    Ha ha...

Are you seriously equating game chat with produced music? That's quite irrelevant.

I think it would be nice to have volume sliders you can adjust client side for other members of your party. Peoples audio cards are all over the map as are their tweaking skills. Take alot of the guess work out of trying to help somone when sometimes it may not even be their fault they are quiet or loud. Let us on the recieving end either boost their volume or reduce it. Maybe I would like to hear the raid leader over the guy eating fritos with his mic on voice activation.

Sorry to keep bringing this up but without people bringing things up we wouldnt have anything new happening.

    Thanks for your patience.
    yes please.

Bump to see if we can get this to the new "Hall of Fame" section...yeah right .

Cmon devs at least chime in and tell us if its possible or impossible and I will stop bringing this up. Till then you can count on me trying to keep this on the front page instead of letting them die and having to repost the same idea every 6 months.

If volume sliders are too difficult to implement, how about being able to right-click a party member and choose from louder or softer in the context menu? Say a 25% (of standard) shift in volume each time you click it.

The worst player audio problems are still trivial compared to the lava and a few other out-of-whack noise levels.
Suggestion to Turbine: Have new character slots open up automatically based on months since account start date.
Update: EU+Store = close enough. Thank you.

    Back up with you.

Still not even a nod or a nay from anyone with any authority. All of us plebians have our own opinions if it can or cant be done I would like to hear an official person say it can or cant be done.

This would be a most welcome feature.

I produced music for 12 years with warner/atlantic.

Sliders would be great, but gain structure is not an easy thing to manage when you only have control of one amplifier. It can be done, but there would still be issues even if turbine did everything perfectly. Probably not a great use of programming time when a mute button can quickly deal with the worst problems (squelch).

EDIT: Besides the fact that the voice chat sounds great in ddo compared to other mmos. Another piece of software in the chain may degrade soundquality and cause further delay between live and playback.

    I'm voting no.

I agree Gunga it probably isnt the best uses of the limited resources we have. I just think it would be a nice feature. Now I also agree it is more complicated then I understand. I also use the mute button alot but if the player is doing a good job I hate losing communication with them. It wouldnt be so bad if some people wouldnt get mad when you tell them their sound is way out of range. I honestly think some people dont listen to themselves in the voice test area to see how they sound. Although there is alot of variables but 9/10 times it seems to be on the transmitters end where all the problems originate.

Maybe they need a voice chat section on Korthos where you communicate with a NPC and he covers his ears if you are too loud or says "What?" if you are too quiet .

I respect your viewpoint and kinda agree. DDO does have the best ingame voice software and has very little delay in transmission.

I do thank you for a clear explanation though on why you vote no though. Doesnt mean your right :P JK man.

I'm always right. Doesn't mean you have to stop being wrong.

    Default Agreed

I was just starting to write a suggestion thread about this, when i thought i should search if this has been suggested before so i do not re-post.
Glad to see lots of folk agree.
    I fully agree as well!
It's quite regular that someone appears to have very low volume, and no-one appears to notice this, probably because they use a headset. I do not use a headset, so when i turn my volume up, the others get noticibly louder too.
Sometimes, someone has set their volume so loud that it's like my subwoofer is exploding! When i play at night this could wake everyone up .
Ofcourse i could ask the person to turn their volume up or down but i don't wanna ask this almost every time i group with people (it happens a lot).

Please implement this, it's the only thing i really have problems with in DDO.
