It's more for the True Seeing clicky, not the +5 UMD.

I've said this before but it bears repeating:

The stave of the seer's UMD DOES work for equipping weapons. I have one of these and I absolutely love it. That guaranteed plus 5 umd can really make it worthwhile to take halfranks on any toon and know that you will be able to equip any weapon in the game.

For instance let's say a fighter with 8 cha, to equip a weapon can have:

9 ranks
2 cha mod (8cha plus 6 cha item just for umd)
4 GH
5 stave of seer

20 umd- enough for pure good weapons

Any greensteel umd bonuses or skill boosts can make sure you get up to almost any item you need in game. Then there's the nice true seeing clickie as well. Not totally uber but I definitely like this item.
