    Default Fires in Australia

I just read that there were some pretty vicious fires across the pond from here.

Just wanted to send warm thoughts and best wishes to you all who might have been affected.

    Peace...

Default Our Hearts are with you

We in the USA want our brothers and sisters in Australia to know that our hearts and prayers are with you in this horrible time. The utter speed and brutality of the wildfires is beyond comprehension. We have you in our thoughts, please be safe and be there for one another.
To the sorry bastard arsonists who have added to the suffering of your countrymen, know this: There is a special place in hell for your kind, and if there is any karma justice, you will burn in the very fires you start....

Things in Melbourne are fine. The fires are at Healsville, a little way out of Melbourne. You are safe there. It's people in my area that have lost lives, homes and animals.

    Word!

I can reminence over finding out how “fun” it is to find out all 3 major exits to my town are blocked by fires. The neverending supply of smoke that keeps you from turning on the AC in the middle of summer. Watching the houses of people you know burning and wondering if they’re okay. Ah, sweet, traumatic memories…

For those of you that don’t know: California has 4 seasons: Earthquake, Fire, Drought and Flood.

On the plus side I did learn: A bowl of White Vinegar helps reduce the smoke in your house.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

The worst thing out of the fires apart from the loss of live/homes/livestock, is that with the exception of a couple of fires caused by lighting strikes, is that the others were deliberately lit and one case fires were deliberately relit AFTER being put out. A tall tree wouldnt be justice enough for anyone that does things like that.

The problem with that is, it's illegal to light them up here, total fire bans in place and all.....

Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.

In all seriousness, they have formed a task force from local police here in Victoria, and are diverting considerable resources toward catching the people responsible for most of the fires.....The one that has cleared out homes, and lives of people in my home town is being treated as suspicious.

On a side note; it was nice to learn that my job, and maybe my life, was saved by a change in the wind direction. If the wind hadn't changed directions when it did, the whole of the central business district of my home town of Bendigo would now be ashes.....It would have burned while I was at work.

It would have been nice of the CFA to warn us that the fire was heading in our direction, and that we should be preparing to leave. Still, in hindsight, it didn't, and the true hero's of the day, the Country Fire Authority saw to it that the blaze was contained, and didn't destroy the whole town. Just parts of it. I guess I'm lucky in many, many ways. I've still got a roof over my head, a job to go to, and money to make....So that I can donate it to others less fortunate.

There is a real malaise and anger starting to grip the towns affected... Anger at the delay caused by closures of roads, and people being denied access to the places that they used to live in. People want to get back there, to see it and sort through the ashes of their lives. To start rebuilding I guess. I know that many people are living in tents, and that there has been an ENORMOUS response from the rest of Australia, and some people around the world. It's going to take time to heal, and maybe months before people start rebuilding lost homes, towns and communities. Longer still before forests and bushland recovers. Although, that IS the beauty of Australian bushland, it will recover fairly quickly....in the grand scheme of things.

I concur with Lufia, you have my best wishes and I hope they catch the individuals who started some of these horrible fires.
