    Default Black screen on startup

The wife is getting a weird problem. We start the launcher, it goes though the file checks and lets her enter the password and choose a server. It then goes weird. The screen goes black but you can hear the sound of the movie through the speakers. Escape out of that and it never gives anything except a black screen. Anyone every seen anything like this?

I had this problem a few months ago, only it was windows, not DDO. In my case, I needed a new monitor, but hopefully, we can solve yours a little more cheaply.

It sounds to me like your game is trying to display in a resolution your computer cannot handle. If we delete the userpreferences.ini file from the DDO folder, you should be able to create a new one that will use default resolutions correctly. (If you feel comfortable doing so, you could edit the ini file to change the resolution to whatever you like, but deleting it and starting with a fresh ini is clean and easy.)

The file should be in your "My Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online" folder, and the name should be userpreferences.ini, though you may not be able to see the ini part, it may just say userpreferences and configuration settings.

Thanks I'll give that a try tonight. I don't think it's the monitor as it is not that old and is working fine for EQ2 and COH. I wondered about resolution but didn't know where to look.

Then it's time to start doing things the old fashioned way. Post a dxdiag and lets see what we can see.
