I concur... READ the party chat window content...
I also understand if people don't want to use Mic's because your in a noisy environment or for whatever reason...
HOWEVER, related to this is people who don't have voice chat turned on and don't listen for voice chat, and i get annoyed at that...
If you choose to type your messages, thats your prerogative, i'll do my best to read your chat window... But at least have the decency to listen for my voice chat in return... Meet me half way here - i'll read YOUR party chat window text if YOU listen for my voice chat!
It costs LESS than $2.00 for a tiny little in-ear bud and if you need to listen to other sounds around you (screaming babies, barking dogs or just gossipy partners, etc...) you only have to wear it in one ear after-all...

I always have my headset on, but do not have nor will I ever get a mic. With a 16 year old daughter, 12 year old niece, 9 year old nephew and 3 year old nephew in the house, I don't need them hearing what I hear sometimes, and definately don't want to subject everyone in party to whatever they are yelling about at the moment.

I also spend 8-10 hours a day in a call center talking to people all day long, so no, I don't want to talk to people while enjoying my downtime, so I type. Deal with it

But, I do always listen while in a party and am always glad to follow directions...to an extent

I ran the first month without a mic, even though I had full headset gear from my Mechwarrior days. Problem was configuration with voice chat [I prefer TS so much more]. If you're new, get the mic and troubleshoot your system asap. Makes your questing easier and your learning curve quicker.

Last night we had a guy that was treated rudely. He had a double feedback loop and his volume was too high [too loud and with echos]. Very annoying. I don't think he realized why he was being ignored. I'm guessing no one bothered to tell him b/c they were worried that attempting to fix it on the spot would slow the quest down.

So, I'm of a mind to start putting up "comm check" LFMs when I'm just running around Stormreach doing toon maintenance. If you want feedback on your settings, just ask for an invite to doublecheck it. Only problem is, I'm not an expert on troubleshooting voicechat, and I'll prob need to be one. Can someone direct me to a help thread that covers most the usual voice issues?

I've been in groups where one person told me my VC was too loud and others told me it was too quiet and others told me it was just right. Which leads me to believe that either VC problems are mostly on the receiver's end or that DDO VC is funky (which, if true, is probably why you prefer TS).

100 percent concur, and then when you do get one, learn to use it, IE use press to talk instead of having an open friggin mic where everyone can hear the person sneeze, belch, chug beer and pick their ass all the while complaining because they had a crappy the night before where they actually had to do something.

Aww, come on ,it's fun when you hear them yell at their kids or hear their wife asking them to please just spend time with them.

it has nothing to do with being an accident. some people assume all will finish, others are just a prick. to attune the altar, one has to run near to it and use the backspace to select or to move the mouse over and target it. calling is an accident is bullsh1t

as for pricks, i was in a shroud where 2 members were constantly arguing with each other. when 1 decide to not complete, the other attune the altar the moment the dd was taken. accident? no, he was the only one anywhere near the altar

there are also players that assume people will finish the quest. some also assume that if people wants to leave, they will state it before hand. however, in my experience there are people who are undecided or may be checking for their larges while doing so. 1 more min aint gonna kill anyone
I ask on Mic and in party chat if anyone is not completing, and i do this during the end fight BEFORE its all finished. Why do i do this? Because i am tired of waiting for 5 mins while someone scratches their nuts, goes and gets a beer, takes a leak and THEN decides if they are going to finish or not. IF you havent decided by the time the end fight is done, sorry, bad luck, you have had 30 or so minutes to decide if you are going to complete.

Additionally, what if the servers go down while you are waiting that 5 mins for someone to decide, Turbine have a habit of taking worlds down without notice. OR what about someone DCing and then you have to wait longer again for them to maybe come back.

Nope, sorry, i state it before quest has ended, if you are not completing, speak up, if i dont hear anything from anyone, the button is clicked 5 or 10 seconds after completion, if someone changes their mind, thats the way it goes, 2 1/2 days later run it again!

Well i cant argue with that, you got me there. It is kinda fun when they telling the kids they are gonna belt the **** outta them for something, or the missus is calling out to them to come on over and spend some time lol and then have them try to talk their way out of it

Geez mate, i just realised, i might have been one of those pricks lol, and trust me when i attune the altar, its no accident, i give fair warning during final fight, no one speaks up, sorry, im not your nursemaid and my time is valuable to me.

I dont assume that ppl will finish the quest, however if they dont speak up when i ask, then i do assume they are finishing and tough luck if they havent bothered to make the effort to responsd when asked in both voice and party chat.

I go into the shroud with a pre determined plan, i write down my items i am going to craft and dependent on shards, i will craft or not. I dont need to fumble through my bag to check larges. For gods sake, you can possibly get a max of 4 larges in parts 4 and 5, how many times you need to check? Do it before the quest, write stuff down, BE ORGANISED. Looking thru bag at larges, what a joke, that really is a **** poor argument.

I finish every run i do, if ppl are running farming on part 1 for shards and i need them, i will join that group for a bit, otherwise i finish every run. Granted i have more than 1 character to run, but i do only have 6, so im not fussed about not having 1 to run everytime there is a shroud run up, there are other quests and i dont sell **** on the AH, so i dont need to farm larges to build up my bank account.

Lets put some reality into the situation, every shroud run is the same, be organised and have a plan beforehand. When you go to work do you suddenly decide to change your pants after you are at work? I dont think so.

Organisation and planning is where its at, get it all done BEFORE you enter the **** raid and when ppl ask are you completing at the end, either speak up or dont get your panties bunched when the altar is clicked and the quest is ended while the hampster was still churning the wheels to decipher your thoughts over simple yes or no answer.

I think we both agree on how it should be done, meaning someone should ask if anyone is leaving. It is also agreeable that if asked and no replies, then it fair to assume all is completing. What I'm stating are for those who do not bother to ask and complete it as soon as harry is down. As for the other side, shrouders should also inform the leader that he is going to leave. I'm seeing a fair bit that do not inform anyone. If not for me looking at the map, they prolly got shafted

As for organisation, not everyone will be like you or me. I like to craft my gems and focuses on another toon before using them. This way I do not make a mistake. Newer players do not have that experience or the luxury of time and thus generally more twitchy when it comes to crafting

To anyone who is causing problems in the Shroud by not paying attention: if you do this again you will be forced to join a Shroud run with me. This will be punishment enough that you will never again not pay attention to your own groups. Trust me...you don't wanna go there!

    Easy fix

    1) Learn English

    2) Buy a mic

    3) Use it

How about you don't ask me to read and I well not ask you to use voice chat?

However most people do grace us voice chat people with wearing ear phones at least, so I think the least we can all do in return is at least pay more attention to the party chat box.

If you wanna type, that's fine. But you'd better be able to type 80+ wpm. None of this:

    Wat

    WAIT

    5 mins later

    blah blah blah

Oh, and even if you don't talk you'd better friggin be able to hear - I don't want to see any of this "type it out for me" B.S.
