    Default Max Dex Bonus...

Hmm. I thought about it, and it doesn't really make sense. I mean, yeah, armor weighs you down, makes you move slower, so you can't evade as good. But wouldn't it make more sense to give a penalty instead? Cmon, a guy with 10 dex and heavy plate isn't gonna be near as evasive as a guy with 30 dex and heavy plate... It just makes more sense that you loose some of your dex bonus to ac for wearing heavier plate, not gain a limited amount.

But then again I guess this goes into the category of "Armor system in DnD blows".

Please don't loose your sex bonus anywhere near me. Frankly, a sex bonus while wearing a heavy plate sounds painful to me. I would think you'd lose ALL your sex bonus for wearing heavy plate.

It doesn't just weigh you down it restricts you movement. You cannot bend enough to evade the blow.

To start, log out of DDO. Then leave your house. The rest... is an exercise to be discovered!

Mhmm. Somehow I agree with that and disagree with that. I mean, the more dexterous you are, the more your going to be able to do that in heavy plate. Up to a certain limit I guess...depending on just how poorly crafted it is... I mean, they do have weak joints for a reason...So you can move.

So I guess a maximun dex bonus would make a little sense, but being as low as it is...:/ And then with the tower shield weighing you down(can't say that restricts your movement...). It's dumb.

And about ur guyses sex bonuses...I dunno if theres any possible way to help you out there...

It wouldn't limit you movement if you could just drop it but to keep it in a position where you are able to still get a defensive bonus from it would completely limit how you could move.

Well in reality if your wearing heavy plate it should be able to add your STR to your AC, as that is what will deterimine if you can move.

Tell you what, go to your local RenFest and pay the guy the dollars to put on a suit of full plate armor. Next try moving and jumping around. Last, add tower shield and longsword. NOW start moving and swing as if in combat . . . . .

If you cant understand how full plate armor restricts mobility by that point, then there is no hope in explaining it too you.

PS. The stuff you wear at a RenFest is 1/2 the weight of real armor anyway. In medieval times, a knight's armor would consist of a layer of hvy cloathing, then a body suit of chain links, then a layer of hvy padding or leather jerkin w/ the last layer being the plate armor. Try putting on about 7 layers of clothing and see how well u would bend, move your arms and legs.

LOL does you REnFest armor add in magical bonuses? I once saw a beholder at a Renfest.. turns out it was really a dude with a big eye.

That's why in those time's if a Knight was unhorsed it usually spelled doom. And every Knight had pages and squires just to help lift him if he fell. 150 pounds of armor sucks, lol.

Have you ever worn full plate?
No matter how flexible someone is, wearing full plate will restrict motion. You can do some simple household experiments using sports equipment. Put on a full set of hockey goalie pads and then try and touch your toes. Try and do a 50m sprint.

I guarantee, no matter how well designed they are to allow motion, you'll see quite a difference.
Now imagine that goalie gear is metal, weighs 3x as much, and fits much closer.

As for the tower shield, well they aren't really pictured in DDO to be what a tower shield really is. The Skyvault Shield is about what a tower shield should really look like instead of the slightly larger graphic we have. The thing is **** big and yes, it would add some serious weight(hence the -2 attack) and restrict motion.
If you want a household experiment: strap an ironing board to your arm and see how well you can move around. Although picture a tower shield being wider, metal, and heavier.

That is why you are unencombered while wearing it. High str is great you can move freely, just not with enough co-ordination to get out of the road of that giants swing.

But my fighter can lift thousands and thousands of pounds...you think a puny 200 pounds of armor is gonna restrict him?

But seriously, if you train with heavy plate and whatnot, your going to be able to move it it, especially when it's magially enhanced, and mithral, etc... you guys are trying to make it seem like dnd isn't a fantasy world and that's its actually the past or something...

True, but without having some restrictions we'd all be invincible. What would be the fun in that.

Just because you train with something doesn't mean it can't be restrictive.
It's a fantasy world for sure but come on, it's not so fantasy that physics doesn't apply.
