I listened to it on my radio, for an olde timey vibe. Loved the speach, but missed the poem (I will have to listen to it on YouTube at some point).

-truth in opinion- I contribute money, time and vote for liberal and progressive causes, so I was not a hard nut to crack.

As for poems....not all poets are Mos Def, or Shel Silverstein. They may have the words, but not the gift of speach.

That being said, I tend to prefer Ogden Nash to Robert Frost....

Default Q, for the sake of a new presidental moment, please let's

have this ONE TIME slide, OK?

And I watched the innaguration, great speech by the president, even if the chief justice messed up the oath beforehand!

And...I seem to be missing some prescribed sleeping pills; where did they go?

    *Eyes poet.*

And the most surprising thing (many of you pre-civil rights people would miss) is at the prayer following...he ACTUALLY put in "The Negro National Anthem" (used by ALL people of different backgrounds BTW, but called that when it was used with the marching with MLK Jr!)

No, I heard it right, and BO was grinning that he was saying it at the time...and the newscasters after he was done were scrambling to explain why this "silly sounding" thing was spoken at the end (and AMEN everybody!)

All in all, a nice event with a good to the point speech addressing all the big points.

Glad I'm not running the boat though right now, it's gonna get CHOPPY!

So my congratulations to the president and vice-president of the US and good luck: you'll need it!

I haven't watched one since Nixon when I was a kid. Why would I watch this one?

    Business as usual.

That being said, I hope he does well as I did all the others before him.

It was a lovely coronation, I am sure the media is very happy.

I don't see anything wrong with commenting on the inauguration or hoping the next 4 years go well.

Once we start getting into policy and value debates, I will be on the other side of the fence.

Now now, let's try to keep this as unbiased as possible.

The only thing of note to me was how excruciatingly painful the poem was.

It takes a lot of grumpiness not to see an exception for the Inauguration from business as usual.. or to see the defining event of the entire American political system as somehow left or right.

To those this thread has annoyed.. at least you wont have to worry about it happening again for four years. Can you live with that?

    Anyway..

so, my friend who was leading a group of high school students e-mailed to say the day was great fun way back in the jumbo-tron section of the Mall.. but terribly cold.. they'd made it back to the hotel and everyone was in high spirits.. and in need of hot food. I'm jealous of them despite the endless waiting and discomfort they underwent.

I just wonder why people think a discussion about the inauguration is about politics. Just because it's an event which involves politicians doesn't mean it's about politics.

That said, I have seen some pretty odd classifications by the mods regarding what constitutes forbidden subjects.

The only reason politics and religion are banned is it leads to very personal discussions that may eventually lead to personal attacks. However, I agree this is not a political discussion it was clearly about an event.

    Thank you Bran.

I apologize to those of you who wished to discuss the event itself that this thread was laden with the negativity I requested be kept out.
