    Default Proposal: Changes to Dimension Door and Word of Recall

    I'd like to propose two changes - designed to be easy to code and avoid breaking the game - to make Dimension Door and Word of Recall more useful and more like PnP rules:

    Dimension Door:
    Use the code for Abundant Step for pathing (note this means our version can get you across gaps but not around barriers, just like a monk using Abundant Step), and bring up a GT style dialog for party members to accept the DDoor.

    Word of Recall:
    Greater Teleport effect (with dialog) to the Dungeon Entrance.. note this means two clerics would need to cast it to recall an entire raid group, for example.


    Dimension Door per the d20 SRD:
    Range: 400+40 ft/level

    You instantly transfer yourself from your current location to any other spot within range. You always arrive at exactly the spot desired—whether by simply visualizing the area or by stating direction. After using this spell, you can’t take any other actions until your next turn. You can bring along objects as long as their weight doesn’t exceed your maximum load. You may also bring one additional willing Medium or smaller creature (carrying gear or objects up to its maximum load) or its equivalent per three caster levels. A Large creature counts as two Medium creatures, a Huge creature counts as two Large creatures, and so forth. All creatures to be transported must be in contact with one another, and at least one of those creatures must be in contact with you.

    If you arrive in a place that is already occupied by a solid body, you and each creature traveling with you take 1d6 points of damage and are shunted to a random open space on a suitable surface within 100 feet of the intended location.

    If there is no free space within 100 feet, you and each creature traveling with you take an additional 2d6 points of damage and are shunted to a free space within 1,000 feet. If there is no free space within 1,000 feet, you and each creature travelling with you take an additional 4d6 points of damage and the spell simply fails.
    Word of Recall per the d20 SRD:
    Word of recall teleports you instantly back to your sanctuary when the word is uttered. You must designate the sanctuary when you prepare the spell, and it must be a very familiar place. The actual point of arrival is a designated area no larger than 10 feet by 10 feet. You can be transported any distance within a plane but cannot travel between planes. You can transport, in addition to yourself, any objects you carry, as long as their weight doesn’t exceed your maximum load. You may also bring one additional willing Medium or smaller creature (carrying gear or objects up to its maximum load) or its equivalent per three caster levels. A Large creature counts as two Medium creatures, a Huge creature counts as two Large creatures, and so forth. All creatures to be transported must be in contact with one another, and at least one of those creatures must be in contact with you. Exceeding this limit causes the spell to fail.

    An unwilling creature can’t be teleported by word of recall. Likewise, a creature’s Will save (or spell resistance) prevents items in its possession from being teleported. Unattended, nonmagical objects receive no saving throw.

    I would like to see DD be more useful as well. But I would not want to lose the ability to port back to the dungeon entrance nor the ability to bypass barriers with it.

    Yeah, Passing through barriers is a key thing about PnP's D. Door. I'd have to give that up, but I was making the proposal with an eye to the developer queue - they are never going to go back and work out all the consequences of letting us on the wrong side of scripted doors and so on.

    As far as the dungeon entrance, that's not what D. Door does in PnP, unless the entrance is only a few hundred feet away. Thinking about this, it dawned on me that that was what Word of Recall ought to have been for.

    I think they need to add clerical vendors in the temple of sovereign host and maybe allow those with 400 silver flame favor to discount at these vendors.

    Yes, whether or not Word of Recall stayed as is, it would be nice to give the clerics a hang-out equivalent to the portable hole.

    My thinking was that I would certainly like to see a PnP-legit way to do what D-Door does now.. Word of Recall seemed like the most obvious replacement.

    I can see your point on this but it would be more game breaking then you realize. Essentally you can do away with trap smithing skills and all the traps we have in the game. Who needs a rouge a wizard with knock and DDoor is so much better. Just Door past any traps etc. Oh don't get me wrong I love the idea and would love to have it I just don't see it happening because it would render obsolete evey devious trick and trap in the game: the frustrating pillar jump in Rainbow....just ddoor past it... you get the point. Nice idea but would break the game.

    Well, I suggested making it just like Abundant Step.. has Abundant Step made trapsmiths obsolete?

    You cant fix Ddoor with a Quicky.... It would be nice if it worked liek this though. Dual Tier casting (Like DBF or Resists for example)

    Basic: Creates a DDoor to the quest entrance. (Same as it is now)

    advanced: opens up the map of the dungeon and you can physically place the DDOOR anywhere you've already been in the map. (So you can go Back to a Shrine, but not jump ahead to the end boss)

    Word of recall needs a Real basic Fix. "/setwor" will set your current location (Must be a Tavern or other Sanctuary) to your current location.

    I dont realy care about transporting multiple people.. WIlling or not....

    No but abundant step works only for the monk not the whole party and that is the big difference!
