    Default Launcher Configuration Error

I get the Following error message every time I try to launch DDO:

The following error was encountered while processing
    "c:\windows\microsoft.net\v1.1.4322\Config\machine .config"

Error loading XML file c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\Confi g\machine.config External component has thrown an exception.

I have re-installed the game from a fresh download and I have also re-installed microsoft.net all to no avail.

    Please someone help me.

    thank you!!

I'm no expert, but I do know that there are several .net frameworks and they all install independently. Did you reinstall .net framework 1.1, or did you reinstall the 1.0, 2.0, or 3.0 installations?

If you are confident that you reinstalled the correct version of the framework, it looks to me like the framework is calling on a driver and the driver is failing to load. I have no way of telling which driver is failing, but updating your video and audio drivers certainly isn't out of the question.

If your machine was working properly, running DDO just fine whenever you wanted, up until a day or two ago and then started having this problem out of the blue, I would also want to know why any file suddenly became corrupted. I'd be looking for a diagnostic program to check out the hard drive and make sure it's not about to fall apart.

I have re-installed all 3 versions of .NET that were on my system...no changes.
I have checked the drives and there are no problems there either.
I am now at the point where I see no other choice other than to re-install winXP or cancel my account and give up on the game.

Have you always got this message or did it just appear one day?

Did you install from media or from a download? If download - which one?

Make sure you install .net 1.1 and also the .net 1.1 service pack. You need the service pack too or it will not work. The other .net2.0 and .net3.0 are not needed

    I re-installed 1.1 and the service pack
The game did work for a few months actually.
I stopped playing for a few weeks and then one day when I tried to start it I got this error.
I'm usually pretty good at fixing things like this but, this one has me stumped.
any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!

    Thanks

    George

Does the launcher start at all or does it exception while loading?

Do you have any recent launcher logs (see sticky for where these are)?

It just started one day. The game worked fine for months before this.

As an update... I gave up and just wiped out my C drive and re-installed winXP and the game is
now working fine when the servers are actually up and running

thanks for the suggestions and ideas everyone!!!
