Compendium - Quest Updates

Over the past few weeks I have invited a number of friends and Guildies from other games to try out DDO. Well i am glad I got a couple to stick around I heard a similiar compliant from several others. To paraphrase the compliant "If Official Wiki is the Best Source for Game infomation - Since it is pretty much empty..." I think you can see where this excuse is going.

On Monday, having some extra freetime and since the Game was not up I decided to at least put up a list of all quests, as there was only "An Explosive Situation" posted. As usual as one thing lead to another I started entering in a lot more information and attempting to get a lot more organized.

Well I bit off more than I can chew and would like some help.

For the most part I have the Template in place and the basic skeleton up for all the quests, but many, okay almost, are pretty empty.

I have a complete one up that I am using as a template for what I would like to accomplish:

I think I have all the main pieces of information listed, gosh I hope so anyways. I have changed my mind like fourteen times on what needs to be there and how the skeleton and template should work. (Of course made worse by the fact I use a different Wiki for my real job)

I'd like to thank Borror0 for pointing me in the right direction for using templates.

Anyways if you get a moment, please find your favorite quest and help me out by inputing the basic data. It should be pretty easy.

As I get more time I will be filling ou more data, uploading some images, maps and the what not, but any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a quest spreadsheet with many of the core details about the quest, and will see about dropping some of that info into the template. No walkthru info or other stuff, just the facts...

I would complain that it is too vertical, but given the design of the Compendium, it is beyond your control.

Honestly, Turbine should be able to port the info of quests like they do with items.

Doing that is a bad idea, as shown by everything present on the Compendium. It's make the page uglier, harder to read and create uneditable zones, which are a pain.

If anything, they should stop porting data form the game and make a real wiki. (Oh, and add parsers.)

I agree it is not the "greatest" layout, but without other tools I am for the most part stuck vertically, or at least to the best of my knowledge I am.

In addition to what little was int eh compendium on quests I used Turbine's other Wiki as a guide. Had to make some educated guess on how Turbine wants to use some other aspects, NPCs for example, but I have no clue on how to connect to Mobs/Creatures/Monsters. My Guess will be "Monsters:Monsters Name" but I am not sure I am ready to implement that yet. Without others agreeing.

Turbine is overusing namespaces, to a point where it's riddiculous. I wish they didn't, it would make it easier on the user and on the editors.

As for the verticallity, you could do a box but the width is so small it would be ugly.

Well finished inputting the info I had on hand. EXP, Favor/house, Level, and info about location and quest givers/names for all the quests. Missing tidbits from some, exspecially some of the later quests, where I had not recorded all the names, and few where I never noted the EXP (being capped one tends to not worry about it until too late, and since I want the base number, not the value for what we "earned" have missed out on that data. I know we used to have some pretty extensive write ups and walk thrus on lots of quest, as well as maps and more...

On the explorer areas, the total EXP is probably not as useful as it would be to break it down into what could be earned at each Rare Find(plus all)/Explorer Point (plus all) and each break point on kills, 10,25,50,100,200,400,750,1500,3000....

You can use the quest data on the DDOwiki for that, Zen. It will fill most of the holes you have.

However, it also occured to me that we lack a standard for indicating which release a quest was in. I compiled the following from various sources. (not worrying about formatting this in this post).

thanks was looking for that, but the quick goggle I did failed to get this on the first page of listings grrrr for some reason (or I would have been done a LOT quicker).

What I was asking about was in the Quest Listings, there is a place holder for "Release". To give an idea if it is old stuff or new material. For any search on that field to be worthwhile in that area, need to use some standard nomenclature.

I noted I was using "Initial Release" and I presume Goldy had been using "base" for the status of original material. Should we use Demon Sands, or Mod 3 or just 3.0 ? Or something like Mod 3.0 Demon Sands to be complete?

I would say Module 3.0 would be clear enough and brief. Demon Sands, by itself, is confusing to most readers and Module 3.0 Demon Sands is useless information. Unless you want to template it with variables (note: current, the wiki does not have a function anywhere near that, even though it takes only a few minutes to implement) there might be more typos and such that might occur.

Okay,

All the quests are entered and I have recieved so clarification on a couple of odd ball quests.

Kobold Island - level 1 Encounter Area has been swallowed up by the Thunder Sea.
Making your presence known - Can no longer be started, however those that have the quest may continue to advance the quest.
Thwarting the Threat (Second Part of Old Scully's Grog) is still listed in the Adventure Compendium but can no longer be started.

Supposedily I am missing a hdden quest in the Threnal Ruins, but I think they are talking about Threnal Arena encounter.

I am in the process of attaching Catagory entries to all the Quests for
Quests - Alphabetically
Quests - by Level
Quests - By Patron or Faction
and will be adding
Quests by Zone.


We need to decide on whether we are calling them "Patron" or "Faction" Faction Appears to be listed else where.

I am combining information from a previous editors entries on the quests with ours. They were only done to level 7.

There are a few entries that I will need to update as they have the orginal skeleton rather than Template.
