    Default Air ellies are broken

    This is the spot that bothers me. The Elder Air Ellie is the biggest ellie listed and the reflex save to avoid the ellie effects is at most 28 and it IS a reflex save. Oh and look we are supposed to be able to attack and cast...

    "Creatures one or more size categories smaller than the elemental might take damage when caught in the whirlwind (see table for details) and may be lifted into the air. An affected creature must succeed on a Reflex save when it comes into contact with the whirlwind or take the indicated damage. It must also succeed on a second Reflex save or be picked up bodily and held suspended in the powerful winds, automatically taking the indicated damage each round. A creature that can fly is allowed a Reflex save each round to escape the whirlwind. The creature still takes damage but can leave if the save is successful. The DC for saves against the whirlwind’s effects varies with the elemental’s size (see the table). The save DC is Strength based."

    "Creatures caught in the whirlwind can otherwise act normally, but must succeed on a Concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) to cast a spell. Creatures caught in the whirlwind take a -4 penalty to Dexterity and a -2 penalty on attack rolls. The elemental can have only as many creatures trapped inside the whirlwind at one time as will fit inside the whirlwind’s volume."

    I think the major problem with Air elementals is not because the elemental them selves but the mechanic behind trip. I recall somewhere may be wrong, that trip was changed to where the landing of trip was based on a Stat score which is almost impossable to save , other then the raging barb with the 40+ str, player side then to get up it was moved back into balance.

    And then you have the damage that the air elemental can deal which is reflex based and evadable which comes after the trip so you would get the wondering why you are knocked down when you saved.

    I don't know, nor do I care to know, the mechanics behind the broken air elemental.

    What I am tired of seeing is:

    You save!
    You save!

    and being flat on my back and bounced around.

    What would have happend if I failed these saves???

    The duration on your trip would have been reset(they were attempting to retrip you while you were on the ground) or you may have been thrown(depending on which you were saving against).

    Hate having a level 11 elemental throw around a level 16 with evasion and 40 reflex.. and not being able to get up or do any type of meele damage to it. Best method I'v found is a paralyzing bow of puncturing and even then the elemental makes the para save 80% or more of the time.

    This method takes 5-10 mins per level 11 elemental to kill .. solo.

    enervate, curse, banish /fod/distructe -> sometimes being a caster is good

    i hate this mob more than any other in the game(yes more than beholders).

    If you make a trip save you should be immune for 6 seconds or 8 seconds or whatever if you fail you should be immune for another trip till you get up.

    Failing that put a **** timer on everything that trips we have timers so should they.

    I dislike the current trip from Air Elementals not because it is different than DnD rules. Not because it is unfair. Not because it seems like a hack.

    I dislike it, because....it is not fun.

    And that, is the most important Dev reason of all...or should be.
