So I see the rumor is that Con damage may be changed so a Zero results in auto-crit instead of death. The reasoning is that Wounding of Puncturing is over-powered.
If this is true it is a really bad fix. Puncturing without wounding for example, is very useful in a few quests. And, it's a good choice in most quests. But it is not overpowered by any means. Cloudkill is also not overpowered.
The only thing overpowered is Wounding of Puncturing. Nerfing all CON damage would have the unintended consequence of making all sorts of builds gimped, even if they have never touched a W/P rapier.
There is however, a very good fix:
Simply remove W/P from the loot tables.
Sure, it's a slower fix, but all of the existing W/P would eventually get bound or broken, etc. If necessary to speed this up, you could reduce the durability globally so that people would have to pick a toon and bind them to prevent them from getting quickly ruined.
I don't have a wounding of puncturing, but I did just spend 2 months making my first stat damage build... He uses Puncturers that would become garbage if this change is made. It's not that auto-crit is bad. It is that there are a lot of other options that would be better under this nerf. I'm guessing this would suck for a lot of characters like mine, and casters with cloudkill, etc.
I don't know if this is a rumor or not. But I sure hope it is just a false one.
