I think Davey has just been around long enough to get a "feel" for what somethings relative value is. Plus he (to me) has a good reputation on the forums (haven't played much in game with him, I'm sure it's the same) and that speak volumes to me. Once I see someone try to pull a bag over another's head I write their name down and never respond to their PM's or post.

keep browsing the trade forums and you will eventually pick up the trends each mod brings

some things never change though: bloodstones, royal masks, w/p weapons, etc

Shroud ingredients tend to be mostly valued the same except large devil scales because of their use in almost every one of the popular tier3 upgrades like radiance, mineral and such.
