After installing on windows 7, I had to intall the .NET framework 1.1 for the launcher to work. After the install, all is well!

Default Potential Fix for Windows 7 Launcher Issue

You can disable the advanced graphics mode for Aero for a given application. Try this for the DDO Launcher:

    - Find dndlauncher.exe, which is usually located in the "c:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\DDO Unlimited" folder"
    - Right-click on the file and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu
    - Click on the "Compatibility" tab
    - Click the check-box next to "Disable desktop composition"
    - Select "Ok"

This seemed to work for me. Let me know if you have success.

Or you can just allow DDO to run with Desktop Composition, works for me on Windows 7 x64 with no problems.

Go to My Documents > Dungeons and Dragons Online

    Open UserPreferences.ini

    Change AllowDesktopCompositing=False
    to AllowDesktopCompositing=True

I had to install twice to get it to work on my new Win 7. Seems the first time it installed to the normal Program Files and the second time to the Program Files(x86). Works fine for now.

When I start DDO, all it says is Not Responding and then I have to shut it down...I'll try starting it multiple times.

    Garth
    This actually works.

I'm troubleshooting a defective video card and this persistent problem was a red herring making my job impossible. No hints in the Event Viewer for the crashes, either.

I'm so glad I found this thread.

    Unhappy

I've tried everything in this thread. Is there anyone who knows of any other ways to get this game to function. I've installed the game twice, and did everything from changing around what people said to, to clicking the screen when it goes black. Nothing. I really wanna try this game but if there is no resolution I will have to find a new mmo...Is directx 11 a more viable option? Any other suggestion?

    Start the DDO Launcher.
When you get to the login screen where you type your password, look up to the top right.
Select the first button and it will give you an options menu. ( I would have said chevron but it is not an upside down V)
Under the General Tab uncheck everything.
(I actually have everything under every tab unchecked)

Now see if the game will launch the first time. ( I have been testing this myself )

Done as you suggesed Ashmer, and it worked for me.

When I first installed, I didn't even get a DDO (Preview) icon on my desktop, and I couldn't start the client anywhere.

I reinstalled DX 9, making sure the d3xdx9_42.dll file got installed in c:\windows\system32.
Then uninstalled and reinstalled the software.

To finally get the thing to launch correctly I unchecked everything in options.

    Finally Lamannia started perfectly. :-D
