She only attacks after you kill the two red-named efreeti and the red-named rakshasa.

Basically, DPSDPSDPS. Just don't melee unless you have a dedicated healer, because she packs a punch.

Default Demon Queen -- Questions on Chapter 1

    Hi all -

My guild recently ran Chapter 1 of Against the Demon Queen. Upon succesful completion of the riddle, we went to "confront" her. The final goal was to kill her bodyguards and force her to retreat -- presumably to be fought in the raid.

    Questions:

    1. Is there a strategy for killing her guards? I ask because we *thought* we got them all, but she activated and party-wiped us. Looking around the room after being killed, we noticed that an efreeti had respawned. Do they respawn or, in fact, did we actually miss an efreeti?

    2. Is there a way to kill her guards without drawing her agro? We were completely caught off guard by her attack. We figured we would "confront" her -- maybe fight some of her minions -- and advance the quest.

    3. Is she on a timer to attack?

Thanks. Any information is greatly appreciated. Also, once we get past Chapter 1, we will be looking for others to run the raid. We are on Khyber. Please let me know if you would be interested in running the raid with us. We typically run every Sunday night at 8:00 PM EST.

The reason that you saw an efreeti respawn is because you wiped. Upon a party wipe, that room resets. Otherwise you would have to do the whole quest over since the door locks once you aggro the guards.

Okay -- then what did we do wrong? Do we simply have to avoid her for a specific amount of time after killing the guards? I feel like I am missing something.

And by the way, would you mind clarifying DPSDPSDPS? I am not sure what that means. Thanks.

She always activates as soon as the last "minion" is slain.

BTW, you have to defeat her more than once. She is tenacious.

the demon queen activates when you kill the prince of swords; you must slay her to continue (twice, actually)

the demon queen cannot be effectively meleed by anyone who is not:

a: an acrobat rogue with high ac
B; standing directly behind her while she whiffs at a high-ac intimidate tank

she must be taken down with spelldamage and ranged; blade barrier and firewall are extremely effective

meleeing the demon queen (in any of the 3 fights with her) as any other kind of character is a good recipe for near-instant death - she does 30 to 60 damage per swing (depending on difficulty and whether its adq or the raid), and attacks 6 times per animation - thats 200-350 damage per animation sequence if you lack the ac to hold her back, and you get the ac penalty for being knocked down.

kiting her through bb/firewall while cone of cold/polar raying her is the optimal strategy, unless you have a high-ac intimidate (or otherwise knockdown immune, ie a 75 ac acrobat) tank to hold her completely still, in whichcase she can be attacked directly in the back without knockdown and outside the range of her swipes. to clarify this, these are the only viable tanking strategies (for someone going into melee range) because they are the only way to hold her aggro and avoid knockdown: the acrobat is totally immune, and the intimidate tank can active block (active blocking will make you immune to the overrun part of her attack, but without intimidate you can't hold her aggro while blocking as you don't deal any damage). the ac prevents you from dying in swipe-swipe.

by dps dps dps tanka means everyone should try and find a way to hurt her; she has very poor hp for a raid-boss type and no healing ability. clerics spending sp on damage (comet/bb) while casters nuke her like its going out of style is the best solution, as she will go down pretty fast to well-specced characters. trying a tank/heal strategy like is used for velah, the stormreaver, in the shroud, etc will result in collossal failure barring the kind of tanks I described above; she has no ranged attack form and is not quick, so running her through area attacks is very effective.

What Davey says. Also: DPS = Damage Per Second -- you just need to hit her lots and not from melee.

I find a firewall just in front of her throne and running back and forth behind it will keep her in the how spot while keeping the party safe if you don't have any other good way to kill her at range.
