Isn't it amazing how a Mod 3 trinket has so much staying power in the game? I'm still 2 Bloodstones short of where I want to be on my account as well.

Bloodstones became retroactively popular with the changes to seeker. Chances are bloodstones would not have been added or would have been diminshed had the rule already been changed.
