Default Sublime Permadeath Guild Defeats Vellah!

Yes... that's right! 11 Permadeathers made history by defeating Vellah the Red Dragon and the Vault of Night! Here is the recap as told by our fearless party leader Tick!

This has to be the high-water mark for my time with The Sublime. WE DID IT!!! Our RAID group of 11 took Velah down-to-china-town.

    The Immortal Eleven:

    Taktick (10 ftr/1 wiz/1 barb)
    Vanebot (12 barb/2 rgr/2 rog)
    Vilhelm (10 pal)
    Ur (12 wiz/ 1 barb)
    Bartron (11 cleric)
    Natches (10 cler/1 ftr)
    Kaland (11 cleric)
    Gederixx (11 Sorc)
    Nabbit (10 Rog)
    Dragoloth (10 ftr/3 rog/1 wiz)
    Jibblet (12 monk)

We battled thru VON5 (normal) with minimal resistance ... excellent group coordination and communication allowed us to work thru the dungeon with ease.

Then we faced off against Velah (VON6 normal). Things got a little hairy as we negotiated her cosmic den and the tricky pillar/bridge mechanics. Again, cool headwork and stout hearts prevailed as we got the portal opened with 2 min 30 sec to go on the clock!!!!

After devising a hasty battle-plan to tackle the hell-spawned beast - CHARGE!!! Velah died within about 30 sec. There was about 60 sec left on the clock at quest completion.

Once the dust settled there were 3 or 4 rezz's required, Vanebot had the finishing blow, and there were 11 shouts of victory.

We pulled the Stonemeld Fullplate (+4 FP, DR/5, and Camouflage x5) and a Sword of Shadow! <---(perhaps the best dps weapon in the game).

Great job by all. This was truly a group effort. I think I heard Kaland crying in the background as we frolicked in Velah's remains. Please post your pics and comments. If you want to talk specifically about tactics, we should probably start a thread in the Strategy forum.

... Dragon's Bane medals for all my friends!!!

It was the highlight of my DDO and Permadeath experience! Thanks everyone!

    Default What a rush!!!

The tension was palpable as we zoned into VON6 ... almost an agoraphobic feeling induced by the thrill of just being there, coupled with a sensation of openness and altitude.

I'll never forget Lessah's "pig-squeal" of glee as she ran across the bridges from entry point to the portal.

This went down to the wire but no one panicked. After all, it was a win-win from our perspective ... if we had all died (and had to delete our toons) it would still go down as a memorable and heroic adventure in the lives of our characters. It's all about the journey.

    Good Job but.....

    there were 3 or 4 rezz's required
THis kinda ruins the mystique of Permadeath for me...... So the only real threat for you guys is Party Wipe Right?

Did you folks end up using a Canned strat? Put the Cleric(s) in the save zone?

BTW, might wanna edit the obsenities outta the pics.

    Default Rez question

You are correct. Like most PD rulesets that I know of, if a character has the ability to rez AND, the body is recoverable (must be able to get the soul stone and it's not at the bottom of an acid pool for example) you can be rez'd.

If someone had fallen off the platform they would be deleting. To quote Zorn: "burning-up on atmospheric re-entry kinda makes the body unrecoverable."

Several of us are flagged for Titan, just need to get some of the others through the flagging process. Biggest issue is getting everyone together due to RL schedules and the like. Indeed we had discussed running some "scouting" missions for VON 5/6 but it just kind of happened to morph directly into the raid as we couldn't agree on a time

    Cheers

question, what happens if a PD group cannot complete a quest? can you guys recall w/o penalty?

I don't know about Sublime, but in the AtD permadeath you have to be able to get back to the entrance. (Tactical Retreat )

The only thing stopping a recall is whether or not you are alive to recall, if a character is dead on recall then it is reroll time. Thus, the reason that a number of us have had to reroll, is we have tried to recover a guild mate when we really ought to have left them and in turn we have been killed.

So, to answer your question, as long as the group is alive then yes, a tactical withdrawal is possible.

    Cheers

    Default Recall question..

Every PD guild is different. For The Sublime we are allowed to recall but you cannot re-enter the quest without re-starting from the beginning. The only caveat to this is if you want to re-enter several times to lower XP to zero OR you accidently recalled.

Keep in mind that as PD players venture into previously undiscovered territory, we are having to look closely at our rules and in some cases clarify things as they come up. RAIDS in particular have mechanics that are not clearly addressed by our "rule book". Falling off Velah's platform is a perfect example ... you could argue that the soulstone is in fact recoverable ... down in the Marketplace.

    Big ups!

Small question: Did you play this "no spoilers"? I recall a previous thread (perhaps yours) discussing a permadeath Velah run, and my biggest concern was that it would be next to impossible without some prior knowledge (I suggested at the time "paying for insider information" in a roleplaying fashion, thereby allowing some spoilers for the deadliest stuff). I'm just genuinely curious as to what decision was made and how it was implemented.

    Bravo!

We have a lot of folks flagged for it in MV but consensus was not to do it because many thought spoiling would be necessary. I'm not totally convinced of that. I bet we'd get to "spoiler necessary" parts and everyone would do what they need to without a word. Enough folks have done it in non PD. Those that haven't are pretty good observers.

Congratulations to the brave Sublime members who tackled that one.

BTW, Lofusmax, I don't think there is a body recover rule in Sublime.

For those of you who did it, do you think it could be done with MV rules? Especially our recall if raised rule? I'd love to try it.
