New computer, vista 64, game wont install, what am I missing/

I downloaded the hires version, am logged in as admin, extract runs, game installs, when i tell the insatller to launch the game it tries to go to a website, says certificate is no longer valid or something, install stops, and its as if I did nothing at all. No icons, nothing. Cant find an install folder, nothing. Its as if the install is not working. So I create a standard user account and it does same thing (I shared the downloaded files to the standard accoutn so i could access). So I turn off user control or whatever u call it and it says I have to be an admin to install game.
What am I missing?
I will delete vista tomorrow if I cant figure this out, use xp instead.

figured out where game installed to (programs/games/game explorer, how obvious), can get launcher going but when I enter username and pasword it crashes, get a popup window saying resource string for token sslcontrol.certificateexpired could not be found, followed by technobabble.
Going to buy game discs tomorrow and start w clean install, no idea why so many problmes, very annoying.

Okay I got the game to install (started over basically) and the laucher starts, I enter username and password and the launcher refuses to connect, goes through retry 1,2,3,4,5 very quick then a popup says:

I looked at the stuff about seting the security for the lauuncher to full control but it appeared to be already set to that, and my UAC is off as far as I can tell, when I checked it it was asking if I wanted to turn it on.
So I have the game installed but it wont launch, any ideas?
Im new to vista so I dont really know whats what with it, so for very frustrating.

have vista 64 and game intalled fine. make sure you are NOT running as admin. this is a known issue.

game told me I had to be an admin to install the game. How to I get around this?
I created a standard user account, redownloaded the game, told me I had to be an admin.
So I see that you can access programs from other users(I dont generally use multiple 'users' on my pc so all this is new to me), installed game as admin, switched to standard account to play, still will not launch/connect. Same certificate expired error. UAC is off.
FullControl is on.
No idea what to try next.
Bout ready to reformat and start over with winxp.

The error: Resource string for token "SSLControl.Certificate Expired" could not be found normally indicates that your date and time settings on your computer are incorrect. Try resetting your date and time to the current date and time, then restart your computer. This may solve your problem.

To change your computer's time and time zone:

Open Date and Time in Control Panel.
On the Date & Time tab, select the item you want to change.
To change the hour, double-click the hour, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value.
To change the minutes, double-click the minutes, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value.

But my date and time are correct. I am synched with time.windows.com by default.
Any ideas? The above says it 'may' solve my problem but what then? Googled the error and all 4 results are that same turbine FAQ article, so no help there.
I got this monster maching yesterday and have spent the last 12 hours or so trying to get this game working. Please help!

I downloaded it from the ddo website.

I just discovered I cannto sync with the time servers, get an 'error has occured' message, may be related to my issue, not sure of course.
Not finding much on how to correct that though.

heres teh dxdiag but I dont see that as being an issue yet since I cant get teh launcher to run, let alone the game.

I downloaded it from the ddo website.

I just discovered I cannto sync with the time servers, get an 'error has occured' message, may be related to my issue, not sure of course.
Not finding much on how to correct that though.

Sounds like it's something with windows and not a conflict between the two necessarily, but I'm far from a professional. Do you own other online games? Do they work? I am actually liking vista a fair bit now, I was very very suspicious of it before.

Suggestions:

Check your Windows Firewall settings and make sure the launcher and game program are on the allowed list.

Also check that you have "run as administrator" checked....

The only other thing that I have fixed a few problems with similar to this is to change the "ownership" of the exe file to your login name "Potter-PC"

Not finding much on how to correct that though.

When I've seen this error in the past, it was caused by one of two things: the time on the machine attempting to sinc being very far out of alignment, or the firewall preventing a connection with the intended server.

Did you set your time/date by hand to be the correct day and time?

Are you running Norton 360 or any other complete internet security software?

Have you checked the Windows Firewall (or any third-party firewall software) to make sure DDO is listed (both the launcher and the game client) as exceptions?

Are you running two firewalls? (IE, McAffee and Norton, Norton and AVG, or Zone Alarm and Norton?)


I should mention that I've only seen this with XP machines, as my experience with Vista (32 or 64) is very limited.
