I made a toon on your server today and got to Korthos Island. THe general chat was constant spam every 5 seconds or so. Several people were asking for help but itwas so hard to readthe general, I could not say anything. I did report it as spam AND filed a harrassment report (well I thought it was harrassment-) I then stepped into a quest and took pictures of the chatbox (which was enlarged) It took five to six pictures for three minutes of korthos island General Chat!!!

Questions:

Is this typical for your server? I went to Khyber and created a toon there. No issues. I had one in winter side of korthos on THelanis, no problems either. Same for Sarlona. and Argo. I have never seen that kind of spamming except in WoW. While I could function, I cannot imagine how a new trial account would fave to deal with, let alone the impression!

Do you think it is concidered harrassment? I thought it was, it certainlly made talking to a trial difficult.

I have rolled and capped 2 almost 3 toons this mod and NEVER had such a horrible time with general chat! :P

Allthought if it is that bad for christ sake move into guild/party chat...lol...dont go into the nearest quest and enlarge your chat box and take screen shots?! I do not understand your line of thought on that one...


But...if you decide to stay and level up your toon you will find many many great players who would give you the shirt off thier own back...

I know I can, but I was thinking to all the trial accounts who cannot talk except over general to other players outsidetheir group. A change that was to stop spam. I took a picture in case the GMs wanted proof. Or forumites.

I've seen it once a long time ago, it was a gold spammer spamming in the market. But 99.99% of the time the gerneral chat is empty (expect for the new non-guilded players asking question here and there).

Weahter it is harrassment or not, depends on what they were saying. If there were offending you or another palyer, then it's harrassment. If it was just someone gold spamming, then it's just...not sure what you would call it...guess just spamming.

Hopefully that idiot doesn't stop you from enjoying DDO. If it continues to happen, you can simply just ignore the chat or you can /squelsh <name> so you stop seeing what ever he says in chat and/or says on his/her mic.

To be honest, on a lot of my toons I've deleted the general chat tab altogether. So I haven't noticed the problem.

I'm not to certain about the general chat channel, but I have noticed the Spam-Tells have reduced signifacantly. I used to get one every 3-4 minutes.. now, maybe once a night.

No it was like "ASDFGG says, '$5 per kplat, have +2 tomes, rare items. www.thisisnotawebsite.comm have a nice day.'" OVER AND OVER again. about every 3-5 seconds. I'd postthe pics but it has a name of a toon on it. I was for about an hour.

Now imagine being new to thegame. And you want to ask a question. Except, you cannot send tells to that player that looks like they know what they are doing because you are on a trial account. SO a shout on General chat, that works on other games, why not here? No, no some stupid plat farmer is spamming general chat now. So what ever you said had probably has disappeared from that person's general chat window.

I might have been in the minority that didn't get THAT many plat tells back in the day -- either that or some people are exaggerating how many they really did get. I got maybe two or three a day, but went a day or two sometimes before I got any at all. Now I get maybe one a week; a decrease, but the problem still exists. I knew the plat farmers would find ways around it, like ponying up money for a paid account and sending tells again, or (and I think this is more annoying than getting random tells) sending it right to your mailbox, and now according to you they spam general chat taking it away from new people who could use it to ask questions.

Yes, make Korthos for the NPE, but shut all the noobs up on the island where they don't disturb all the Uber-ites with their noob questions

i dont make new characters often enough to notice but given the rate at which plat farmers are banned i imagine that the one unrestricted place for them to be ******** is in general chat in winter korthos; i hadn't heard of it before, though.

Well, it sounded like it was a good idea, but from playing WoW, I knew that was going to happen. I think Turbine needs to be more proactive to remove these people and shutting down accounts.

I mean, it isn't important to ME, as a vet, but I would like this game to grow, and I believe that is a deterrent towards growth.

I have strictly played on Ghallanda server.

I have one character on Korthos at this time. He might be stuck there too. ;>)

I am not spammed that often. And it has really cut down since Korthos has appeared.

But it seems you created an account at the absolute time that the spammers created theirs. Which is unfortunate.

I have only received one mail spam in a long, long time and that was in the past two weeks. The name was k*****t.

I receive the occasional general spam maybe once per day.

Maybe once a week I get the tell spam, which annoys me as I am anonymous, but they must have seen me running somewhere and grabbed my name.

As for the spam, it comes and goes, nowadays I go whole days with none, and some rare days I get 2

Thanks forthe hellos. Apparently I have been to your server a while back, for i had a Level 3 (now 5) Wizzy named Maelstromm there, complete with a flawed sibyrius shard and a candy cane. He was pretty well built, so he is running around the area, along with some toons I just created.

Ok, back to the subject. Like many of us who have played the game for awhile, generalchat doesn't mean anything, unless we see someone in the Marketplace and /wave atthem, rather than sending a tell. To new people, those especially not sure what the norm is, tend to use it. I have met and helped many players just because Ihappened to be in the harbor and someone put a question over general.

Now with the trial account change (which I find very fustrating btw) they use the general alot more. Many vets skip the whole Korthos experiance, I tend to find that some of the gear is useful, and I actually enjoy it. And, especially on a new server, any gear I can get at low levels for free and easy, means more money for them later on. Hence my appearance on Korthos' Winter side.

With the amount of spam that was generated, no questions or answers could be asked. I could not send a tell to them, if I want, nor it may not be feasible to group with them. I find that horrid. It was one ofthethings I hated when I got to my first city in WoW. As a new person, communication can bethe key difference between paying for the subscription, or going back to WoW.

SOrry for the soapbox. I know it's not your fault, but it is fustrating.

Last night, 1/1/09, I logged into my character on Korthos and ran around and played quests.

I stood around talking to different NPC's. I ran Heyton's and one other quest(the Storehouse?).

I stood around in the outside area.

I hung out in the bar. I ran the Collaborator. Hung out in the bar.

I went outside and gathered the quests for the slayer area.

I received ZERO spams.

Maybe the spammers were all hungover.

Welcome, I have not seen this in General Chat, but I am not surprised. When in a low level area I try to stay in GC just in case someone has questions. Trying to stop Plat farmers is like carrying water in your hands. Its a sad state.

I will say that Ghallanda is very new player friendly, sure just like all servers we have our grumpy butts, only they tend to make darn sure to edit who they run with.

Glad to see you here for how ever long you stay. Who knows I might even get over my fear of Raids and run Tempest's Spine if I see you start one.

Just wanted to say hey and welcome to Ghallanda! I believe I've played with you when I used to be on Thelanis. Nuveah/Nakia/Niyobi (all clerics). I've found Ghallanda to be a pretty friendly place for the most part and made myself right at home over here.

As for the general chat, I haven't seen too many episodes of general chat being spammed with garbage, so hopefully it's not a regular occurance.

The guy I saw was just touting a specific thing, asking for some plat for it... (It was so traumatic, don't even remember what the thing was. .) ..so just ran around watching him for a while. (I was bored. Is stalking illegal in game? ?)
