Well, just a thought. But I think it would be fairly helpful to some people to be able to have voice icons above other players heads(like is cs) to better understand who is the one talking.
Just a thought though...

I like this idea. Not sure how much of a time investiment it would be of if it is worth it, but it is a nice to have. Once of the first things i had to adjust to when i came to DDO was looking in the message window for who was saying what rather then over their heads..
Would be a nice feature...
ATARI SUCKS!!!!
not sure if you noticed, but when someone's voice chat is
transmitting, their character's name goes green on the party list.
for that reason, I cannot support request for a floaty over their head thing.
I believe the devs realized that while the indicator on the actual character might be more
sexy, you can't always visually see the party member that is talking. You can always
see the party list.

I would LOVE to see this as a user benefit. There are so many times where I am paying attention to what is going on in the game and someone asks for something. Since I don't just watch the health-bars, I have no idea who just spoke.
Is this a game breaker without it? No.
Would it be a big benefit to the players? Absolutely!
Do I want Turbine to spend Dev time on it? Yes, if they can spare it and if it doesn't take to much effort.
This is the kind of thing that isn't essential but really ads the polish to a game and makes a good game a great game. It makes for a more user friendly interface.

Seems like a fairly easy solution would be to have the names above each character also turn green if voice chat was active. Not sure how tough this would be to code, but the advantage would be that it would allow people to turn off names if they didn't like the change.
hehe, better yet, just have the character itself turn a shade
of bright green . . . ok just kidding.
Having the floaty name turn green would be fine as well.
guess i'm just so used to keeping an eye on the party list from
playing clerics/bards/dragonmarked halflings that I do it even
when playing a character with absolutely no healing. I kinda like
to know when a support character is getting in trouble so I can
bail em out (run to them and intimidate whatever's pounding them).
while changing the code, might as well add in pink for incapped and red
for dead to the floaty names![]()

Indeed. There are a lot of things that could be done to help polish it and make it easier to work as a team. IE: someone asks for help real fast, but nobody knows where they are or, sometimes who they are... Maybe some kind of notification that points to where the talking player is, a translucent one that doesn't get in the way, but just helps. (;
What if your in front of everyone and can't see anyone at all? Just a thought...
It doesn't take more than half a second to look at the party list to see who was talking and if you missed who said it, ask. That's what I do when I'm on my cleric and 5 people are talking at the same time, or I just wasn't paying attention. If they really need/want a heal, restore, or resist, they'll ask for it again.

Not a bad idea IMO, but not game breaking for sure.
When I'm on my cleric in the heat of battle, I'm either a) watching the red bars, not the green names or b) dodging things like DBF's coming my way.
Solution? I tell my group members if they need something bad (other than a heal coz I am already watching their red bars, state their name and what it is they need;
ex. "Poison resist on Kedyn pls."
If more players could get used to that form of communication during battle, things would be easier on the buffers/healers....whoever they may be![]()

I definitely second Jarka on that.
generally, I use abbreviated radio procedures.
for example, "this is manaspongebarbarian, Hjeeal ME"
or "this is nimblerogue, uhhm, can i get a restore please, I'll probably blow the trap if I don't
cause I got 6 neg levels".
Just examples, no classism intended.
