In all my time playing DDO and all my time reading the forums Ive only ever seen one player thats struck me as amazing at this game and thats the fella that solo'd VoD.

Everyone else just plays and thinks they are uber.

I know lots of awesome players that will never have uber characters. In fact, because they attempt very difficult permadeath quests, some of the greatest players in my style will never break level ten. Nothing against Uber characters, my hats off to them but what really matters is this; After two, three or ten years of playing DDO, when you hang it up, are you going to look back with fond memories of your adventures? If the answer is yes, you're characters (who are the vehicle of that adventure) are uber enough.

I don't even think I would call that person uber, yes you got to give credit for the accomplishment and the player you are speaking of is a very solid player, but I think it was more the will that he had to do it that strikes me as amazing. To do that quest over and over tell you get it right, the resources demanded to get it done. It's amazing to me that someone had the will power to continue to do that tell they got to the gold.

It's determination that wins most battles in the game of life.

Give someone 500 mana pots and you would be surprised at what they could accomplish..

    Question

I have been playing this game for over 2 years. I am a competent player, and I pick things up pretty quickly. I was on a raid (6 man) with some guildies (Hand of the Black Tower) and watching them do their thing. I realized right then and there that I will never be uber. I will never solo a raid. I will never get the crazy rare loot drops. I will never have a toon that makes people ask me about my build.

I don't have any characters that stand out in people's mind, I don't usually lead parties or raids. I'm just a basic solid player.

I don't have any real uber loot either. Sure I have some raid items, some GS weapons (nothing past tier 2), some rare drops like a bloodstone, rez ring, etc. but they are little things. Once I got a banishing short sword and thought it was so cool. It sits in the bank. Actually it sits next to my kardins eye I have no idea what to do with.
I have a 28pt dwarven fighter named Keran who has been upgraded, re-enhanced, many many times, all to keep him on his game. Hell Keran has even gotten +3 str, dex & con tomes. He will never be uber.

Most of my toons are decent, some are a little weak or too specialized and I can never seem to ever delete them. The toons I do play are all solid, in some way or another. None of them will ever be uber.

I am not an uber player, but i'm a solid one.
I don't have uber loot, but my gear is respectable.
I have no uber toons, but the ones I play are solid.

I will always be a decent guildy and party member.
Hm, that actually sounds pretty uber in my book. lets see, a bloodstone, some tomes, a shrould item, kardins eye, a banisher..not bad. Id rather have a consistant party member. Unless this is a wicked sarcastic post, then i just got pwn. :/

To be honest, I have not met an uber player since the french canadian Tannk left xoriat :P. It's not all it's Cracked up to be. Now great players, they are in abundance. Just be great, not uber.

Actually, there are few things in this game that would even truly indicate whether someone was uber or not. Soloing is one, equalled on different terms by leadership, and yet again equalled by permadeath longevity. Those are the only things that really impress me. To be honest, true leadership probably impresses me the most as it is unfathomable to one such as I. And they can order me around lol.

Don't you know..... gimp is the new Uber... Soon you'll see the masses throwing away their wop rapiers and running around with clubs of the holy flame.... mark my words.. the day is near!!! Bud , best thing to do is enjoy the game. You don't need to be uber to do that and HoBT is a great guild with a great mix of players, you're in a good home, enjoy it.

i have partied with people with terrible builds who are just plain hopeless even if they have a clue of what they might do if they weren't piloting a terrible build.

I would like to thank the OP for stating his mind because I and many others feel exactly the same way and I personally sometimes seem to dwell far too often on the subject. I would quest with the OP anytime anywhere over any "Uber" character becasue DDO for me is a team game, a game between members joined in many ways for many common purposes. There are many players who enjoy questing and lending a hand of friendship and support to their fellows. Some of them have acheived Uberness and some have not but that is not who they are. Who they are is someone who is always valued, who can always be counted on to do unselfish acts, who can always be trusted. We are above all questing with the players behind the characters.
"Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.""--Jack Burton, Big Trouble Little China
