Smile THELANIS!! Who are your chars? And why the name?

    I AM ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Ok Thelanis! EXPLAIN YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Who are all your in DDO characters and why the choice of names? If you're from another server and want to jump in that's cool, just realize that I simply won't care as much

    I'll go first.

Nineteen Zerothirtyseven: Warforged Barbarian. Name based on the zipcode in Lima, PA.
Nineteenzero Sixtythree: Warforged Fighter. name based on the zipcode in Media, PA.
Onenine Zerothirtyseven: Warfogred Wizard. Name based on the zipcode in Lima, PA
IXX 0XXXVII: Warforged Monk. Name improperly written in Roman numerals based on the zipcode in Lima, PA. I ain't rerolling a char I really like cause I'm not good at Roman numerals.

Gretal Maplefur: Human Female Rogue. Name based on an character I had in Pen & Paper a long time ago. The character was Grover Maplefur an elven ranger. When I started playing Asheron's Call I wanted to use the name but had already made it a girl so I changed the name to Greta Maplefur. In DDO, Greta was already taken.

Benion the Benevolent: Dwarven Male Cleric. Name based on a character I had in Pen & Paper a long time ago. The character was Benion of the Blues. Benion was created with the AD&D 2nd edition Priests handbook. He was a priest devoted to music. He was a human in PnP. When I first started playing DDO, Benion of the Blues was a human Bard. I didn't like the character. I killed it, but wanted to keep the name. I created a Dwarven Cleric and decided "of the blues" sounded silly.

Deadslug: Drow Male Sorc: Name of my longest standing fantasy self. If you read my license plate it says Deadslug. Deadslug comes from AD&D He was a human thief that was built under the "Fence" Kit. He was a member of the thieves guild the Steeplejacks in the Country of Middlesex. I must have a character named Deadslug. When I began creating him Gretal already existed. redoing a thief wasn't good. He's been a halfling here. He's been a rogue, a wizard, a bard. I've been through several incarnations of Deadslug and was unhappy about the way he was turning out. I've found a character with him now that will stick.

Liahonna Xen'Umbra: Drow female rogue: "Liahonna" is the title of an artifact used in the Book of Mormon. The Liahonna was basically a divining rod used by the Nephites to find fresh water. Xen'Umbra was the last name that Umber Hulks decided to use in their role-playing. Back when Drow was released in the game, our guild voted on a last name of all the Umber Hulk drow that would be created. When Gabriazar won the Battle of the Bards, Liahonna and Theris were there beside him dancing in sync. There are not many Umber Hulks left now that remember the significance of the name Xen'Umbra. If you meet a drow out there with this last name, chances are they used to be in our guild.

Climoff Puddles: Halfling female cleric: This name was created as a joke for my Role-playing event Stormreach Heroes Return. First the name is pronounced Climb off Puddles which is silly and delights me to no end. Climoff was created to sit in the background at the Stormreach Heroes Return party and shout anti-war sentiments. This was funny to me, because my other character was one of the ones returning from the war. I was heckling myself. I'm happy to say that she really P'd people off. I ended up liking her. She stays.

Miztarr: Human Male Paladin: This name I ripped off from my rl friend and Patron in Asheron's Call. I've always hoped he'd stop playing CoH and come to DDO. His name is saved, and if he ever appeared and asked for it back, I'd give it to him. That kinda stinks too, cause I really like playing him.

Janay Sturm: Drow female Bard: This is a name that reminds me of someone very beautiful.

Berwynne Pyrewood Elven Female Ranger/Paladin: Berwynne is a town in the Suburbs of Philadelphia. The actual town is spelled Berwyn. Pyrewood is a last name I thought up on the spot

Bleakwind The Blessed Elven female Cleric: This is a name I came up with based on the looks of the character. She's built as an undead turning machine. My earlier attempts at building clerics failed because of me gimping Charisma. I took Bekki's advice about going elven with her for the Undying Court enhancement.

Okay, This seems long. It is long. Who are your characters? Why the names. This should be kinda fun.

    I'm 19037, and that's what I think.

I try to name my characters with names that easily identify their class or purpose, with one exception. This is also getting devilishly hard as names dry up... but I'm still amazed at some of the names you can manage to get.

Steeltoe - fighter. Inactive pending a Mod 9 reroll.
Cobweb - Wizard who started with a CC focus, but took on a Necro focus later on.
Harsh - Barbarian... name seemed to fit a THF brute.
Encore - Bard. And since we keep hearing the same songs over & over & over...
Dolurrh - the exception. This is my Ranger, named for DDO's realm of the dead.
Upgrade - a WF sorc. Seemed apt.
    Punch - Monk.
    Orthodox - cleric.
Bewitch - Bard idea I'm trying out.

    ...and a few others.
Exit, pursued by a bear. ~ William Shakespeare (stage direction from The Winter's Tale)

AEsahaettr - Subtle Knife in old Norse. He's named after the knife that cut anything in His Dark Materials, by Philip Pullman. When bored I equip a Vorpal Great Sword.

AlfredSartan - Alfred is a major character in the Death's gate series by Weiss and Hickman -- he appeared to be doddering, cowardly, fainting fool.. but underneath his defenses he was the Serpent mage, the greatest surviving of the Sartan, the race that had sundered the world to imprison their enemies, the Patryn. I have had characters named soem form of Alfred in every on-line game I have played, going back to SillyMUD...

LaSavate - a q-staff Monk, named for the national Martial art style of France. He's specced for cleave/whirlwind, and Savate is a crowd-fighting style originally developed by sailors.

Pandaros - an arcane archer, named in honor of the greatest of the Trojan archers in the Illiad.

Pantalaimon - named in honor of Lyra's daemon in His Dark Materials. He's seeking a Lyra, apply within.

Paracelsus - named after Theophrastus Bombastus, the legendary Renaissance alchemist and physician.

Wedgiebot - a Warforged who gives wedgies.

Hmm, most of my characters are not based on my pnp guys nor do I use thier names.

    But here goes:

Braegan Lore - I dunno liked the name

Malvian Lore - I dunno liked the name

Azule the Fallen - I dunno liked the name

Phalse Hope - Seemed a great name for a melee cleric

Demetrios - It's my middle name (it's Greek fyi)

Troubadour - Just screamed bard to me!

Vengeannce - was a barb/rog but I got so sick of lowbie clerics not able to keep up I re-rolled her into a cleric. (Sorry I am hard on clerics, I always watch what they are doing).

    That's it

    Sure, why not.

Kimpeck Leader of the Empire (Paladine): i'm a trekkie, and I thought taking a class based off of honor and giving it a Klingon name would be cool, and my tribute to one of my favorite franchises.

Ezzee the Intelligent (wizzie): Ezzee is a nickname of mine, and it's a wizzie, thus the intelligent surname.

Paurneau Star (Tempest Monk): I don't know, just because I can. No real basis for the name.

Etoile de Paurneau (ranger rogue): Took the name above, that I really liked, and changed it into French. Why not.

Snugglesbear Cuddlysoft (Barbarian): Come on, how could you not love that name for a barbarian. Actually, the name came about as a joke. Had a guildy who decided to get rid of a guy with that name, so I really quickly scooped it up and joined the guild. Partially as a joke, but partly because I really liked it.

Mediocra Commonus (Monk Paladine Fighter): This was the name of the first toon I ever created on DDO. All the stats are really even and she is really just a purely mediocre character, thus the name.

Notice you went with the feminine "La" instead of "Le" Typical French

Gannot, Gunnet, Gonnet, Gennot, Ginnet and Gannut are named similarly so that I don't need to always tell people who my alts are

Horseface is my barbarian and the name amuses me.

"Barred Bard" is my bard, which also amuses me. For some reason people tend to pronounced this as "bared", which is especially amusing.
You may know me as: Gannot, Gonnet, Gunnet, Ginnet, Gaxxat, Gennot, Gannut, Gxnnxt, Horseface, Izzayhay, Pailmaster, Artifactual, Gynnet and/or Barred. What? I like alts.

Enir - human Barb/ Rogue - first PnP character (1976), randomly generated name (blame the Judges Guild)
Usmok - human cleric - second PnP character (was actually a druid), I smoked a pipe at the time.....
Forgebreath - dwarven fighter - it is simply a great name for a dwarf.

I can still peek abouta bit (shhh!!)... Anyway, this looks like fun... but before I go into my names I want to say I especially like these reason:

Very great reason for naming anyone anything... Plus it makes me think of Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions where a theme for naming things is simply: "like the sound of it."

Simply put -- this explanation amuses me .

    Anyhoo:
Thaelor Aeloria -- (Elf Warchanter) found an elvish translator and plugged in Fenris Entity and this was my output.

Volsung of Vigrid -- (Human Fighter -- long since deleted) The Volsungs are a prominent family in Norse Mythology. They say the story of the Volsungs is where Tolkein's Ring had is mythological roots, but whatever... at Ragnarok (the Norse end of the world) 300 warriors (Vikings, not Spartans :P) get to defend the plain of Vigrid from hordes and hordes of undead, which sail to the battlefield on ships made from toenails that people forgot to clip before dying... Odd, huh?

Musicman -- (Human Spellsinger) My brother, Shinarel, used to always call Thaelor "Music Mans" or "Music elf"... nothing to do with Professor Harry whoever and that silly librarian.

Anavrin -- (Human Monk) I dunno I just liked the name... a mirror helps to see where I got the name from. .. (partial musical tribute, but not entirely).

Axyl Rose the Reinvented -- (Elven Arcane Archer -- made before prestige enhancements) Is a tribute to the folk-punk roots of the band Against ME!... nowadays the sound is way too influenced by record exects and studio-control-mongers... Reinventing Axl Rose still remains one of my favorite albums.

Kilbbott Two Thousand -- Is also a musical tribute toon. One of my favorite bands, Murder by Death, has a song titled Killbot 2000, which is about children becoming zombies in a very strange story, which the album (Who will survive and what will be left of them?) tells through it's songs.

Snowleopard The Gonzo -- (Human Deepwood Sniper/Rogue) "We are all snowleopards at the top of the mountain" ... Need I say more?

Noobitron the Psychonaut -- (Warforged Barbarian Cleric ... w/ a lvl of fighter) ... It fits... nuff said -- except this is the most fun to play toon ... EVER!

Allinblind -- (Halfling assassin) I like poker... what can I say? ... plus it's a reference to a poem I threw together.

Kegbane Grimdruff -- (Dwarven Paladin) ... Just like both the names... Ideally it would be Grimdruff Kegbane -- but it's more fun to be called "Keg" over voice chat.

uh... yeah there you go -- hope that provided you amusement.

    Default Ok mine

Tenman capped wiz-Nickname I got in college (actually should be spelled 10man). Lone wolf, lil dawg, and Big Dawg if your out there I miss ya'll.

Tenka capped 15 ranger/1 rogue-Ten for alt purposes wife picked the name and helped design her look.

Tenkade up and coming healer cleric-Ten for alt purposes and Kade is for my son it is his name also liked the play on tank aid.

Tenbank 1 fighter-bet you can guess.

All last names are Alucard which has nothing to do with some Magna book series thing that I get asked about. It was a name a rocker used to check into hotels. Is dracula spelled backwards as in Pnp we played both low and epic levels and I had a Vampire in Epic quests. Used to really irk the Paladin I ran with.

If you see me in game just call me 10.

    I can dig it

Carli the Gypsy is taken from Age of Loneliness on Enigma's Cross of Changes album. Love the tune and the name, although it's really spelled Carly (was taken). ..and I've always thought Gypsy's were cool.

Catryn CasterKiller is a foray into the good ol' army years. During the 6 month Desert Fox/Storm pre-war wait, my thoughts would occasionally drift to the old days of D&D, and a fast killer of soft targets in the rear came to mind: the Casterkiller (drift that is, when I wasn't running PT in a MOPP suit in the freaking desert!). Catryn was the name of a Russian friend at the time, and it wasn't taken and it fit.

Generals Shad. Originally Shad was an anti-paladin NPC I made for a D&D campaign in the 80's called 'The Valley of Shad'. Being DM I didn't get to play much, but when chances came I modeled my favorite PC after him and the name stuck. In the 90's I enjoyed a GM role in an online action-fantasy game (T4C), playing as a PC general of a huge player army [guild] (100+ players). I called the character General Shad. He led many epic battles, this time for the cause of good. Even in Feb/Mar 06 DDO Thelanis had the name General already taken, as was Shad (grr). So I ended up with Generals Shad.

Moonpool was/is the daughter of General Shad. It reminds me of a favorite Zen garden at night and is one of my favorite names.

Ruth is taken from the Old Testament as expected. She was the Moabite great-grandmother of the anointed King David. I run her as a true and dedicated giver of life (a cleric's cleric). Ruth however is prone to the occasional hormone-induced mood swing, so if you see her in battle mode - she's in a confused-aggressive state. Please dare to give her a good scolding if you observe this.

Samsarian follows the intended path of the original Shad, only this time as a lawful good Paladin (vs the anti-paladin). The idea was that Shad's wretched black soul had reincarnated into Samsarian (Shad died as the PnP NPC anti-paladin), and had a lot of karma to make up to break out of the DM induced samsara curse (cycle of death and rebirth). Basically Shad is condemned to be nice for a while, and to add insult to injury his ancestry is that of the ill-tempered Drow.

Sekigahara is taken from the Japanese Battle of Sekigahara, a decisive battle in 16th century Japan filled with blood and treachery. I love ancient Japanese history and this fit what I wanted in a sorceress.

Serve is named in honor of my brothers and sisters serving their country and carrying on the cause of liberty. /salute

Vercingtorix, from Roman history, is named after the famous warrior-prince of Gaul. It's a great piece of history involving Rangers and Druids, and my baiting inspiration for the Druid class.

All of my names ended up from following a backstory of a befuddled gnomish artificer who made Warforged, mostly for cows. The names were bestowed either as a function of what that Warforged was made to do or some other largely significant thing that happened to them before arriving in Stormreach.

Cowtech - Created to be a repairer for a herd of mechanical cows created by the befuddled gnome.

Cowsoul - A Warforged who ended up being inhabited by the spirit of a deceased cow. The shell of the Warforged is now the vessel for the trapped soul of the cow.

Cowrage - The cow Marut. Created to smash those who harm cow-kind into oblivion.

Cowflurry - A Warforged crash test dummy.

Cowintuit - Created as a spiritual consultant and adviser for cows.

Cowblade - A Warforged cook who became endowed with magical properties after an accident in a Cannith milk processing factory.

Cowdecoy - A sacrificial 'forged made for diverting foes away from cows.

Cowstalker - A stealth specialist made for stalking and assassinating cow predators.

Cowglade - A Warforged who was made to be a cow interpreter.

Cowballista - A Warforged made in an attempt to make expeditious cow transportation by launching them as artillery.

Cowvirtue - A Warforged that was made to follow the "Path of the Cow", whatever that might be.

Achika Goldeneyes - A befuddled gnomish artificer who is responsible for making all the previous Warforged. Her name is one that I have used in every online game I played before coming to DDO. However, a lack of gnomes forced me to be a bit more creative in bringing such a character to DDO.
