    Default LOTRO Crafting question

I bought LOTRO yesterday, and I am frustrated to the extreme. Though I signed up for their forums, it doesn't recognize me, and won't let me post. Worst of all, I can't find any post to address my dilemma.

I made a hobbit burglar, and one of the quests was to take and egg, and make a pie crust. I found the crafting place, and an NPC to sell me everything that the recipe says that I need. The problem is no matter how many cooking supplies I buy, crafting fails for lack of cooking supplies!

I don't understand why games like this are more popular than DDO?

So you cant cook yer pie crust? Am I reading this right?

Im......not sure......why games like that are more popular.....

On a serious note, the reason they are popular are the same reasons the Sims are popular.

    What is that reason?

    Ive no idea.

    Need:

    Cooking vocation
Recipe for food item already read
    Cooking tools
    Ingredients
    Proper location (oven or campfire)

    Do you have these?

"Cooking Supplies" in LOTRO is an item that looks like a frying pan. You need one in your inventory to cook anything. You also need to be standing next to an oven (regular oven, not a Superior oven, at least to start). Sorry to hear about the forum issues, hope tech support can get that cleared up.

As for why that style of game is popular...well, some people like crafting, some like housing, some like playable music, some like rideable mounts...from what I've seen the people who like DDO best are those who like the lively combat system, the freedom to create characters with different abilities than others (even of the same class), and quests with actual maps to explore rather than "kill 10 boars" or "deliver this letter to Sally".

It appears to me that I have all of those things. Cooking supplies are the only things listed in red letters, so I assume that means I have none, though I have 4 in my inventory.

I am reliving the total suckiness of my Vanguard (one month) subscription.

PEOPLE! Before thinking of switching from DDO to LOTRO, please, please, read the above quote. Your Hobbit Burglar must take an egg, and make a pie crust.

    Wow, just wow...

Ah, you have to equip them (and only need one frying pan).

There's a slot for 'tools' or something like that on the character doll. (easiest just to hotbar your tools and click the set you need at the time.)

Pfft. You have to run HOW many raids to craft here? Play both, I say.

And to clarify, no the Burglar doesn't have to "must do", he can if he wants.

    Hobbits love pie.

What hobbit in his/her right mind wouldn't WANT to baks a pie crust?

And, yeah, you do have to equip the cooking tools to cook anything...sorry, forgot that part.

If it makes you feel better, I have to be reminded I need to equip the proper tools. I'm always forgetting that one.

What was throwing me was I figured once a "tool" was equipped, it would take the place of your weapon. DDO mentality for what is in the hand. It doesn't. YOu've got weapon slot as well as tool slot.

BTW, when gathering, be certain to have the right tool on, and don't forget to toggle your "radar" back on when you log in. It likes to turn that off.
I started to play... yesterday I want to say. I'd ahve played more, but got sick. Almost too sick to even watch videos.

Also, Rickpa, if you want, several of the Muskateers also play lotro. So if you've got questions, doubtless someone there can answer it until the forums get straightened out for you. I know the forums nailed our own bartender as well. He's stuck in a situation similar to yours. All becuase of non characters in his name. He chose - in his name. The multitude of servers dealing with names don't like the non "letter" symbols.

lol, this thread is at least making me laugh.

I kind of wondered what LoTRO was like but after reading that these are the types of quests that are in game, I'll refrain. It's bad enough people convinced me to try out Warhammer Online.

Such a terribly linear game with little real diversity, I'm hardly a power-gamer but am already over halfway through in less than a month and getting bored already with it.....

    Are you kidding me?

A "quest" to make a pie crust?!

Hi, I play Generic Fantasy RPG Online, formerly known as DDO.

Whats even better, is when you make the pies, or someone gives them to you for delivery, you need to avoid other hungry hobbits. If they get a whiff of your sweet pie, they come looking for it, poke your pie and you fail your quest.

Others like to rifle through mail if you are on a mail delivery quest.

    Yeah....
