Can the puzzle be made solvable, using the "press two squares at a time" method to alter the setup?

    Default It's true

Sometimes the puzzle is unsolvable. You have to beat the crud out of the massively overpowered bastard to get a random piece to lock and hope it's the one you need. If an Off tile locks, DD and restart.

Sometimes the puzzle is solvable and you get it done in less than 30 seconds due to an experienced Lights Out player.

Essentially; Verifying that the puzzle does indeed start unsolvable half the time.

That being said, the boss is pretty easy to beat down assuming you're not soloing.
er... sure. You melee him. I'll watch you die. Over and over again.

that "method" doesnt actually do anything. The puzzle reacts the same way as if you had hit the two pieces in sequence. Most times when people percieve it as having worked, they actually just couldnt see the correct pattern before.

it seems like when i'm in a group of hyperactive high stress d-bags they panic on the end fight and say the puzzle is unsolvable while i jump in and solve it in 8 steps.
in all of the times i have soloed the quest not once have i had one truly unsolvable puzzle. and i've soloed this quest about 20 times.

My issue with the quest is if I do not have the solver up & running then I cannot solve... what is the point to a quest that requires us to wait until someone develops a web site that provides the solver and sometimes (granted others have been able to solve) cannot be solved. What is the fun in this? What is the challenge in having a solver or a puzzle that is so complicated that we need a java tool?
Random puzzle that may not have a solution.. so I can fix my DT armor that got random +6INT for my Pal...

The fact that the puzzle is not consistently solvable is unfortunate. The fact that the bonus chest is tied to solving the puzzle as first presented is extremely bad design if it is not always solvable. Finally, that the chest is awarded for what is the substantially easier way to finish the quest (if possible) is ill-conceived.

Change it so that the bonus chest is available only if you don't solve the puzzle would make more sense and remove these complaints (of course opening up a whole new line of complaints).

If we show you a puzzle that we believe is unsolvable are you willing to show us we are wrong? We all promise to be impressed! (sincerely)

It all comes back to the inclusing of the

    XX
    XO
    XX

Set up, becuase ith only the six tiles, there is no way for the + pattern of each move to in any way change it to all X, or all O. So show me a puzzle without that setup, and i can almost assuredly show you a solvable puzzle. However, the reverse is also true.

are you sure it isn't a flaw in the solver?

Puzzle is unsolvable sometimes. That is just plain statistically true, however with lightning strikes it can become solvable. So a complete beatdown is not needed to complete. As for why unsolvable puzzles were put in...bad coding?

Are you certain? The release notes from 2009-August say this was fixed, and in my experience, the puzzle is always solvable unless the boss has been damaged to the point where a tile is burnt out.

Which can happen even if he is hit once. Meaning you then need to do 5k damage to him to blow up a tile.

My favourite runs are where the puzzle is already solved as you enter the room. Auto-win !
