    Default Hmmm...Interesting...

If anything can pull me away from this game to another MMO, it would be the upcoming Champions MMO by Cryptic Studios – they’re the guys that made City of Hero’s/Villains, in case you didn’t know, then sold it to NCSoft. I love me some Champions! Anyway, I’ve been following their development over at www.champions-online.com, and they announced the other day that Cryptic had been acquired by Infogrames, the owners of Atari. Yesterday, Ten Ton Hammer posted an interview with Jack Emmert, Cryptic’s Chief Creative Officer.

Now, here’s the point of this rambling post. Atari owns the licenses to D&D’s Forgotten Realms. Cryptic is in the business of making MMO’s. During the interview, they specifically asked if Cryptic might undertake a MMO for some of the properties that Atari owns and Forgotten Realms was specifically mentioned and the answer was “Anything is possible”.

So, given development cycle and all, it would take a while, but its possible there could be a D&D Forgotten Realms online MMO sometime in the next few years which would be a direct competitor to Stormreach. That would be two official D&D MMO’s competing head to head.

    Thoughts?

Very interesting. I will pipe in before it gets locked. (Devs dont like competition) . I think I would give another D&D game a chance but if I sense that its another artistic license nightmare wrapped in a D&D wrapper to get people to buy it I will be mad.

I love DragonLance. I am just finishing up the Annotated Chronicles. That is one big book well 3 books but it is one big one with notes in the margins. It is a good read. I am dyslexic so it takes me forever to read something but practicing has helped a bit.

Dunno about the thread, but what ya just said there puts ya in targetting range.

(I'd probably have shot for "off topic" for this thread.)

This could be a good thing for DDO though as the new head of Atari seems to think online is where he should focus Atari.

    Source : http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081211/...deogames_atari

Too bad DDO isn't mentioned in the article.
Jasperheart, Flintfingers, Elyanna, Llyana, Illianos, Arienna, Beldagarde, Bostjan, Cammie.
    Collectively known as Team Flint.
Just a note to those who knew Flintheart. I am no longer in possesion of the name.

Well while champions online looks and sounds pretty good(following it on their fourms) you truly cant say its really champions as they are using none of the rule system just the setting and some of the npc's some of us may know. and as to a better they were fogotten realms you couldnt pay me to play that. With all that said I still dont see any game out or in the pipeline to pull me away from ddo, champs might have if they tried to use as close to the rule system as they could but since they arent using it all its very doubtful

my thoughts are that WotC would probably insist on enforcing the 4.0e rules, which pretty much KILLED forgotten realms pnp roleplaying.

I have my doubts on an FR MMO, the setting is too set and not open ended enough to offer leeway.

Anything FR ends up being too limiting (according to FR fans) or too convoulted, and complicated.

Its insane trying to put THAT MUCH info/race/class/PrC/rules/city/countries options out there, that is a nightmare I think no one should takle. What Timeframe of the realms would you use? Could I kill Drizzt? Take over Mythral Hall, beat elmisnter with a rubber chicken? those are must have options....

    Yes, the rubber chicken.

Wait, I hear something, some one shine a torch toward that slur...

I'd LOVE a FR MMO (especially in Waterdeep). I'd HATE a DL MMO. I'm ambivalent about a Greyhawk MMO.
