If anything can pull me away from this game to another MMO, it would be the upcoming Champions MMO by Cryptic Studios – they’re the guys that made City of Hero’s/Villains, in case you didn’t know, then sold it to NCSoft. I love me some Champions! Anyway, I’ve been following their development over at www.champions-online.com, and they announced the other day that Cryptic had been acquired by Infogrames, the owners of Atari. Yesterday, Ten Ton Hammer posted an interview with Jack Emmert, Cryptic’s Chief Creative Officer.
Now, here’s the point of this rambling post. Atari owns the licenses to D&D’s Forgotten Realms. Cryptic is in the business of making MMO’s. During the interview, they specifically asked if Cryptic might undertake a MMO for some of the properties that Atari owns and Forgotten Realms was specifically mentioned and the answer was “Anything is possible”.
So, given development cycle and all, it would take a while, but its possible there could be a D&D Forgotten Realms online MMO sometime in the next few years which would be a direct competitor to Stormreach. That would be two official D&D MMO’s competing head to head.
Thoughts?
