It's true. I recorded someone once without their permission due to a civic dispute and that evidence was not allowed in court as it was not legal.

Some states do have laws covering recording audio of another person without their permission, but only recently have they updated the laws to cover video and if doubt highly that the laws would cover typed chat in a game that can be monitored by Turbine. Mainly because you have no real expectation of privacy.

Now tattling over what someone typed is utter nonsense, grow some skin and shrug it off.

The worst part is it wasn't even anything bad that was said. It was 2 friends joking w/ each other, and one said to the other the equivalent of "you jerk lol." Honestly, it was nothing.

Just got the DL from a reliable source and I am definitely amazed by the player that reported.

Seriously, some people invite you to their guild, and then they decide you're just not their style and they cut you loose, yet you linger in their private channel so you can report a conversation by TWO FRIENDS saying it's offensive (and absolutely not about you)!

They cut you loose from the guild. They don't want you there and you stick around like batman in the dark, silently waiting for an opportunity.

I know a lot of lawyers. In conversation they're quick to say this person or that group could be sued for any given action. Trying to get a good lawyer to follow through is a different matter.

1) "Turbine reserves the right to deny, in its sole discretion, any user access to the Turbine Sites or Services without notice for any or no reason (including, without limitation, for violation of these Terms of Service)."

2) "Turbine representatives may monitor Content on the Turbine Sites."

Again, it's not the real world, it's one they built and you are playing a game in it. We're not talking about email, post mail or tele-communications services, we're talking about a game on a set of servers. Turbine has never guaranteed your privacy while in their game world.

BTW please understand that I'm only posting because I have ten minutes to waste this morning, I do not care about this subject, however I do think it's silly to get upset over anything you think might be private in a game world or chat board.. some of you people might want to get your brain around the idea that most of us are on video survailance in the communities we live in day after day.. unless of course you're a complete shut in and never travel by city street or visit a store or mall.

It is clear that the chats are not private but I think that the turbine should take more time to analyze the reports that it is made, and noted that it is a chat with friends and in any case to contact the person that allegedly offends and ask if this is so because the person who reported it had nothing to do with the conversation, on the other hand if you know who this person is clear that this has no place in a private channel in which to talk in this way and that is the way in which this group of friends were amused by both deveria to leave the channel he is not comfortable with, instead of harming people just walk by you do not like the way of fun People from the rest of the channel which is the majority and the founders of the channel is my humble opinion

I just want to say that if you get invited to a private channel (w/ password), you are there as a courtesy.

It's a group of people that know each other and have fun with each other.

Reporting those people for joking around with each other is weak. As weak as you can get.

If this happened in the AM channel then all I have to say is that I'm extremely dissapointed in whomever thought it was wise to file a complaint. Private channels are private. By joining a private channel you sign on for any and all chat whether its appropriate or not. If you don't like what is being said then register your complaint by leaving the channel. Reporting someone is just plain chicken_hit.

this game is full of whining nancy pricks. was running STK the other night and two people in the group decided they were going to report someone's name they saw running around. I thought it was funny but i suppose these people were from the small minority of mega finger pointy do gooders that make life miserable every where else.

It would be nice if Turbine could implement some type of administrative function on the channels so if someone unwanted gets the password you can remove them and change the password. Its silly to continually create a new channel to replace a channel that has been corrupted. My 2cp.
