Default Pick your favorite mythos then add one on...

I just had an argument in a bar last weekend with a very drunk girl on the worlds and mythos created by writer's for the books and films they create that we all enjoy.

She was a nutty fan of the new film "Twilight" and its vampire mythos, and I am in the "30 Days of Night" camp.

I prefer my vampires messy and crazed, predatory and gross, not sparkling like diamonds in the sunlight, thanks. (I only projectile vomited the one time during that part of Twilight.)

Her and I ended in a stalemate.

So for this thread topic, state your preference, and then post your own two versions, your own two worlds created for us to enjoy be it film or book.

So I already went first in a way...

    Pick your mythos:

Twilight or 30 Days of Night?

Drop an answer and then give us two new choices...

    Thanks all

    Twilight.

The creatures in 30 days are more like greater ghouls.

But for my personal taste the creatures in 30 days were to brutalised, while those in twilight were too romanticed.

For me, Vampires are the undead, who can walk among the living without being noticed, given certain conditions (mostly night), and very often have a high CHA and INT, as to speak in D&D terms. They have some free will left, but are driven by their craving for blood.

Ghouls are those who can not infiltrate the living, and are more driven by instinct, but are still (somewhat) intelligent.

Zombies are those who are neither intelligent nor can pose for a living, being purely instinctual monstrosities.

My favorite vampire treatment was John Carpenter's Vampire

I am a browncoat, and a fan of all things Whedonesque, therefore falling into the Buffy category. This would put me more on the side of 30 days, I guess.

Vampires are dead humans animated by a demon, displacing the soul. Their thirst for blood is that of the feeding demon. Not quite DnD canon, but I like the storyline better than the monster manual template. It's similar, but less romanticized than the Anne Rice vamp lore, and a whole lot less shiny than the Twilight shenanigans. I love the Buffy episodes where they rip on the "Vamp Groupies".

Edit: I guess I wasn't clear on my two others, which would have been Buffy or Anne Rice? (staying with the vamp theme).

ummm... you're supposed to pose two OTHER mythos' to choose from after stating your preference (I know 'cause we've done this on House T).

So,since I haven't seen 30 Days (and probably won't for a long long while), I have to go with Twilight.

Dragons from Dragonriders of Pern (telepathic companions) or DnD (god-like monstrous beings)?

When DMing, I like the Godlike Monstrosities! hehehehhe.

However, I generally prefer the Pernesque dragons, with actual emotions and personalities that go beyond a basic color/alignment generalization.

I have Two answers for this question:

To read, I would have to say "Twilight"

If I were going to the movies or watching a DVD. "30 days of night."

It makes the missus hug me closer...

I like my books closer to the original.

    Bram Stokers- Dracula

The story is just phenominal and that has kind of colored
How I like that kind of mythos for me.

For Movies I go more for the "Blade" type of movies...
When I go to the movies I prefer action.
And I like my Vampires a little more... "gritty"

    For movies?

    John Carpenters "Vampires"
    Near Dark
    The Blade Trilogy
    30 days of Night
Nosferatu ( I like the classics too)
Dracula (The Original) (also, check out the Italian version)
    and for fun...

    The Lost boys

I would have to Say "Dragon Riders of Pern" I love the Books!

    I like Highlander.

I would Go Norse. Thor just Rocks!

Marvel: I like my heroes a little more Flawed

    Babylon 5:
The Story was So Good that when the network tried to cancel it
the Series was picked up by another netowork due to the popularity.
How can you say no to that?

    Edit: OOOPS! Forgot this Part...
