If people would look at the AH first, that would remove a lot of the price check threads....

Not like this board is so busy that other trade posts scroll off to quick. Not sure what the harm is. Seems a pretty minor thing to worry about.

um usually when peeps are asking for a pc its usually followed by make me an offer ...... which would be in o gasp the marketplace!!!
Is this really a big deal for you Byz?
Sems like a fairly harmless question to ask, and has been asked on every servers marketplace since I can remember.
It is a harmless question, every PC thread so far, i add the value which is pretty correct then i add an offer.
Later i get a pm saying, "Why are you making an offer for? its a PC!!!"
So... not only do i help these gamers with the value (and the price doubles bcuz of my honesty the item then becomes close to impossible for me to trade for) but i get a personal PM which is all negative.

Now now all. Stop ragging on Byzantian. You have to understand where he's coming from. I'd be pretty upset if every time I helped someone they accused me of trying to rip them off just because I made an offer. What if everytime you donated to the salvation army christmas can the person told you, "I know that's not all you have. Stop being stingy." You would be mad too lol...
Anyways that's my 2 cents and Byzantian isn't a bad guy so everybody just take a deep breath.

A marketplace: is a location where goods and services are exchanged. The traditional market square is a city square where traders set up stalls and buyers browse the merchandise. This kind of market is very old, and countless such markets are still in operation around the whole world.
In the USA such markets fell out of favor, but renewed interest in local food has caused the reinvention of this type of market, called farmers' markets, in many towns and cities.
In Europe, especially in France and Britain, street markets, as well as "marketplaces" (covered places where merchants have stalls, but not entire stores) are commonplace. Both resellers and producers sell their wares to the public.
A bazaar: (Persian: بازار), (Turkish: pazar) is a permanent merchandising area, marketplace, or street of shops where goods and services are exchanged or sold. The word derives from the Persian word bāzār, the etymology of which goes back to the Pahlavi word baha-char (بهاچار), meaning "the place of prices".[1] Although the current meaning of the word is believed to have originated in Persia, its use has spread and now has been accepted into the vernacular in countries around the world.[

There's your problem, and it's twofold. First, not everyone has decided yet to sell. Many do, but wait until the thread gets to that point before making an unsolicited offer.
Second, on a PC, I think folks are looking for at least somewhat unbiased opinions. If you say "it's worth X and I'll take it off your hands for that", they have to question the truthfulness of your valuation given your own expressed interest.
Similarly, I think most people with PC threads are looking for a few replies before they have enough info to decide if there's consensus range on the value and if they really want to keep it or sell it for something in that range. Many times the OP will come back and say "ok, I'd like to trade it for Y or Z", *then* you can send your offer.
I've done a couple PC threads myself, and at the point of asking really wasn't sure whether I'd keep it, trade it or give it away to a friend/guildie who wanted/needed it. Just back off a little and you'll get less frustration out of all of this.
My 2 cp anyway...

Actually, looks like Byz is the one who needs the deep breaths.Originally Posted by Brumby

It seems most times when a person (especially a new trader) post a trade thread they get flammed to he77 about their worthless trash and have the forum gurus mock them for trespassing.
That in mind, a PC seems the best reasonable alternative....
