So for those who prefer Wind Stance and put level ups into Str or Dex, how useful / reliable is stunning fist without a 30 WIS?
(for the sake of argument, let's say a 14-16 starting stat, +2 enhancements, +6 item - so total WIS of low to mid 20s?)
Just curious, as my current monk is a kama monk/tempest, so I don't have stunning fist, but I'm currently considering rolling a second monk and going unarmed combat and pure build. Is it still worth picking up the feat if you don't focus primarily on Wis?
It's still useful, but it won't land that as often. And usually if you miss it just takes another few swings and you might get hit a couple more times. It's not a deal breaker.
Good to know, thanks Hu.
Just crunched some numbers - it shouldn't be too bad to reach that level, to be honest.
I forgot to add in the Master Ocean stance, which would be +3 WIS, which changes things from low to mid 20s, to mid to high 20s.
i.e. 14-16 starting WIS, +2 (enhancements), +3 (stance), +6 (item) = 25-27.
If you put some level-ups into WIS, you could be approaching 30 easily enough.
Very doable.
I just have to be careful not to gimp my STR or CON in the process![]()
STR 15
DEX 15
CON 15
INT 8
WIS 15
CHA 8
+1 tomes in the begining for 16's everywhere.
+2 tomes in the 15's will get all greater stances and keep your toon balanced to handle anything.
+3 tomes will access all grandmaster tiers for later.
All lvl ups into WIS, and a few enchancments later, an easy 30+ which will help you in the long run, and keeps you balanced since WIS is the most important stat, IMHO.
Rage pots, madstone, sun stance, all help with dps, not to mention which race you decide to be, for boss fights.
Everything else is sf or qp'd to death and insta critted.
Dodge, weapon finese, twf, itwf, gtwf, imp crit bludg, wf bludg, toughness +X's, power attack
A few vorp kamas, and wounding kamas for the rare occation, some bursting/ bane handwraps, +5% wieghts for solo, and an occasional gs quarterstaff.
Theres your easy button.
(human makes it really easy...)

Q&A is the business of pointing out others' failures. Optimists need not apply.
If you're strength ends up higher than you Wisdom, you're probably better off taking Stunning Blow instead of Stunning Fist.
Weighted will work for Stunning Blow and give you a bit more to your DC
[REDACTED]
Except I haven't 32 point builds, nor do I have any tomes right now.
So, Human build, I think I'm going with:
STR 14
DEX 16 (24)
CON 12
INT 8
WIS 15 (28)
CHA 8
Human enhancements - +1 DEX, +1 WIS
Monk enhancements - +3 WIS
Level ups - +1 DEX, +3 WIS
Total in DEX/WIS with +6 items listed in brackets, though I'd obviously aim for +6 items in STR and CON as well. I just couldn't be bothered to give those numbers, as they're not overly relevant to this discussion.
I can't be arsed to get Combat Expertise, as I'll be sitting in Power Attack mode 24/7 I think, unless I find myself having trouble hitting.
Other feats will be exactly as you mentioned - Toughness, Finesse, TWF line, Dodge, Imp. Crit.
Aiming to spend most of my time in either Wind or Ocean stances, so DEX/WIS will be modified by a further +3 depending on whether I want to up my DCs on SF/QP, or if I want haste.
If I can eventually get +2 tomes, this would be even better. But I'd wager this build will work just fine.
*edit* - forgot to add Human Versitality IV being my main reason to go human.
Being able to boost damage, saves, AC, or whatever I need by +5 for a short period of time is droolworthy.
Consider Dwarves or Elves, for your 28 point build monk as well.
Dwarves with their bonus to CON will ease the stat distribution, and Elves with their increased DEX and no penalty to STR make it easier to two weapon fight.
