Does anyone know of a place online that shows the in-game pregenerated character templates?
Does anyone know of a place online that shows the in-game pregenerated character templates?
I'd like to know, too. Would be nice to be able to give enhancement advice to a friend who's using one of the pregenerated paths - knowing what feats and skills they're going to be taking would make the enhancement choices clearer.
Supposedly they are in the compendium.
So I built a Ranger Tempest and I have followed the pre-generated path to lvl 4. I've noticed that this character can't hit the 6 named rare encounters in ww except on a 19 or 20. I have a BAB of +8 and dual wield short swords (one is an icy enfeebler +1 and the other the sword of pain also +1 I think). What is that all about?
No one has a BAB of +8 at 4th level. BAB is BASE attack bonus, before modifications for strength, weapon, etc. Highest BAB you could have at 4th level is +4 (4 ranger levels, for instance). Add in +2 for Pathfinder set bonus, +1 for +1 weapons, +3 for 16 str, and -2 for dual wielding, you get +8. Might want to try equipping just one weapon if you're having trouble hitting. Dual wielding is really better for higher level characters who don't miss much to begin with.
[edit - P.S., thanks for the link, Weasel. Exactly what I was hoping for]

why not follow 1 of the templates in my new player thread?
If you want to know why...
Sorry the BAB isn't 8, I have a +8 to hit.
The ranger is a drow.
It isn't clear to me that the toon can't hit these on anything other than a 19 or 20.
It makes sense that I have fewer hits in STK on hard as I'm lvl 4 in a lvl 5 quest.
I can post more details if you all think it would help.
Hmm at L4 you should have something like:
+4 (BAB)
+4 (18 STR)
-2 (TWF penalty)
+2 (weapon bonus)
-----
+8
So +8 is the bare minimum. Nothing wrong here. If you have trouble hitting some stuff, it means you need additional buffs, like aid/heroism/bull's strength potions, a +3 weapon instead of +2, a bard with you, maybe enhancements for the type of weapon you're using...

There are also a lot of other ways to get hit bonus at low levels. The melee set bonuses and the goggles from Korthos island will get your hit up fast at low levels.
I second the notion of stealing a template from Aranticus' thread. I'm currently playing the battle cleric from his thread and having the most fun I've ever had in DDO (played since beta with breaks).
The templated pre-pathed tempest is actually an ok build out of the box for a 28 point ranger... 16 16 14 8 10 8 (varies slightly by race) are reasonable starting stats on a 28 point ranger... add some items and buff that little guy up. At level 4 +3 weapons are usable and +1, +2 items ... however the one thing the veteran ddo player knows are - Buffs/Potions. It is often easy to tell the vet player vs the new player on a lowbie - it's usually the one with the drinking habit.Btw... cr3/4 nameds with a 26ac - sounds about right.
