Can't Install the Game - Vista 32bit

Anyone who can help; I have wanted to try the game out again and recently re-started my account and downloaded the game (several times at this point - 6 hours combined download time). EVERY time I've downloaded and run the installer, I get various (and never consistent) errors, all mentioning a Corrupt Source File (it could be client_anim.dat, client_mesh.dat, and about half a dozen others, different each attempt). I've tried clicking Retry and that doesn't work. I've uninstalled everything I could on DDO and retried downloading the client again (I've done this 5 times now). I can't get the game to install.

I dont run it. but I believe I can help. Due to MicroSloth needing to prove to shareholders and patent offices "new, improved" products,

Gates and Co. decided to bolster their latest flagship of the fleet with better "protections".

In this case its a small? program called UAC, (User Access Control). I think.

Like I said.. I dont run the bloody thing. But I helpped a buddy get ddo running on his new box and 2 weeks later we squirreled it out.

You can find UAC in whats formerly called the control panel..(mebbe still is Idont know).... what is does is prevents any and all software from running on your computer without your express knowledge and/or permission. (Remmember the movie Tron, with the evil MCP {Master Control Program} that ruthlessly destroyed and enslaved honest programs? There you go!)

What went wrong and what can I do about it?

Well since I dont run vista, I can only speculate, but it seems when DDO is trying to install, it doesnt properly get, obtain permissions to run from the evil UAC! Worse, you are supposed to be notified of programs wishing to run, and grant permissions.. but the evil UAC isnt doing that either...

So, What I can recommend is, go in the "control panel", click on UAC and DISABLE IT.

Remember your comp is just a glorifed file cabinet.. and you make the decisions what go in, what comes out. Overthrow the evil UAC!!!!! FREEDOM!!!


then happily install ddo for the last time and fire it up. and log in quick.. we need a 6th!

i too have had problems with the download. my hard drive gave out a while back and i had given out my game disk to a friend to use. tried download for three days and couldn't get it to work. finally copied the whole game file off of a friends comp, and found a link for turbine shortcut . and got it to work but the download has yet to work for any of my friends of myself.

I love the card. I've been having problems with my PC in general since I tried Warhammer. Long story.

As for SP1, I've tried updating that too, but...man, this PC. It's new too. I'll try that (need to anyway) again, until it works.

I'll look for that UAC too. I just reeeeally wanna play this game again. Thanks for the help all. I'll let you know the results.

Well I downloaded and installed the game (with much issue as well), and I picked the Standard one I hope it looks good anyway!

OH! id idnt notice you said you downloading the game... tsk tsk. its avail new from amazon.com fer $4.50 a copy... should have one mailed to ya..

any rate you downloading the standard or high res version? yeah yeah I wouldnt bother with the standard either but... the orig game cdrom is the high res version... and, if you having trouble might wanna try a different d/l for now to make sure it will run, then go from there.

remmeber death to the UAC!!

PPS. the "standard version" was complied with low res textures to keep file sizes small for faster downloads... get yer hands on a cd-rom

Well I seemed to have installed it ok. However, now when it's Updating the Game data (from the initial launch screen), I continually get HTTP 404 error. It retries every 60 seconds. Weird.

Thats usually a firewall issue (need to add exceptions to the game) and/or internet explorer issues. Make sure it is not in work offline mode.
