Default VISTA graphics setting help !!!!

    Hello.
I'm running DDO on VISTA 32bit SP1. Card is Nvidia GeForce 8600 extreme 256MB.
For some reason when i change the graphics settings they do not stick and each time i start the game i have to reset them again. this is bothersome however it becomes a real trouble because i cant use dx10 !!
dx10 requires game restart and since gfx settings do not stick dx10 in unchecked each time i restart.
I would be very thankful if some1 could help me out here..

    TNX in advance.

Is your my documents folder on a remote harddrive? Is it read only? those would be reasons the file wouldn't save, that and/or a firewall stopping the game from writing them.

I'd like to bump this thread because I am having the same issue.

I have to reset the settings every time I want to play DDO or else the game does not start up---I've tried many different combinations of settings, high and low, and I cannot find the reason why it won't start up without a clean reset.

I haven't been able to check out dx10 because it requires a restart, which I cannot do with the new settings.

I have Vista 32bit SP1 8800 Geforce GT (up to date driver), intel core2 duo cpu 3.00ghz, 4 gigs of ram. I have had this problem for over a year, on a different computer and 2 different video cards. I can't find the real solution.

It seems like this is a common problem, because my boyfriend's two computers also has the same problem---he's a comp geek and can't figure it out himself. Hopefully it's an easy solution!

Edit: I've read a somewhat similar thread and tried everything in it----I restored my vista, reinstalled DDO and all the other **** (drivers etc), and it still doesn't launch unless I reset the graphics. There is no error message when the failed launch occurs. I click the server I want, screen goes black, then jumps back to my desktop with no explanation. My permissions are turned off and so is my firewall. I can't think of any other solution.

Do you use a router, Lynliss? They can have firewalls and can be a bit tricky to configure. A quick test to see if that relates would be to bypass it and plug directly into the ISP's modem. Try doing what doesn't work and see if it does.

If so, then at least the source of the problem would be known. If not, nothing but 5 min lost.

It's definitely not the firewall. I can run the game perfectly fine when I reset the graphic settings, so obviously it has to do with the settings. My router isn't the problem---thanks for the idea though.

Have you check to see if user config file is staying "Read Only"? Usually when you access files across different drives it will flag it as read only. Just a thought
