Default Buy Back feature will be temporarily unavailable

The Buy Back feature has been temporarily disabled and will be unavailable beginning on Thursday, November 13th at 6:00 PM EST (-5 GMT). Until it returns, be extra careful when selling your items, because you will be unable to use Buy Back if you sell something by mistake!

People were probably buying then reselling Hireling Contracts so that they could use them via the Buy Back feature.

It's actually unrelated to Hirelings. We're investigating some game performance issues around the buy back system.

    Heh... hadn't thought of that.

I was hoping taking buyback offline might fix the current lag you can get when selling even with low pop.

    You sell something.
The item doesn't disappear while the game writes what you sold somewhere.
There is a lot of writing going on, so you have to wait.
You get frustrated. I know I do.
You close the window, and initiate the transaction again.
    Wash, rinse, repeat.

    Voila, lag.

I think it's related to the ability to make profit off the buyback process. Don't know how its done, but I have heard people talking about it.

I had wondered about something along that line - hadn't tried it yet. Guess I won't, now. . . .

Well, actually, since it's already been turned off I guess I can explain what I was thinking.

If you sell something while buffed you sell for an inflated price. If you buy it back without those buffs, do you buy it back at the normal price?

Inflated sell, normal buyback, repeat ad infinitum....

    Am I close?

It doesn't work. If you sell something without your haggle gear on, you can buy it back at the price you sold it, buff up your haggle and sell at the higher price. Buyback is only affected if you did not originally put your haggle items on while selling.

It could be something as simple as fixing the fact that bound items take forever to remove from your buyback list.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

Default Problems I have seen with Buyback

    A) It takes 5-10 seconds to navigate from page 1 to page 2, to page 3, etc. This makes it seem clunky and klugey.

    B) When selling at vedors that will allow buy back, the selling process can take 20 to 30 seconds, and can cause items to remain in your window as the data base draws the conection points to the buy back database.

    C) The items which are supposed to be 24 hours and then "imminate" in terms of selling seem to remain in your buy back list and do not leave.

Selling at one vendor, and then running to a House K vendor or House D vendor, buying your stuff back and reselling it seems an unintended advantage, but not that big of a deal. You are not making any money (as you could have sold it to that vendor in the first place), you are saving space in your transportation and that is about it.

    BTW how you do that:

sell all your weapons at a normal vendor with no haggle items on, then goto the pawn shop buy them back, throw on a +15 haggle item, and sell them to him.

Not only will you get a bonus for selling them to the pawnshop but with the haggle item you get just an extra little boost too.

That way you don't carry the weapons around, they sit in your buy back till you feel like going to the pawn shop to sell them.

I suspect this is what was causing the problem. I had noticed that you could do this, and it was a real time saver between quests to just dump everything on the nearest bartender, then buy it back at the broker when you had some free time. The extra inventory space was nice, but I suspect they didn't really want it to work that way. The massive amounts of stuff being sold, rebought and resold probably were slowign things down.

Will this wipe out what we had in the buyback menu before it was disabled? If so PFFFFT to you for no warning. Yes you can sell stuff in the refuge later go to house D buy it back and sell for a higher price it is a nifty little feature for the backpack challenged.
