    Default Error 40000

    System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
    at PatchWrapper.CPatcherClass.UseTime()
    at com.turbine.launcher.Services.Patcher.UseTime()

    Using Vista 64.

    The game always crashes to desktop exactly where the Turbine Logo should appear. It normally loads on the second attempt. The above message is what I'm getting tonight.

    Make sure the Time and Date are correct. if they are then try reinstalling .net 1.1 sp1

    1) Open your control panel
    2) Open Add/Remove Programs
    3) Remove both .NET 1.1 and .NET 1.1 Hotfix
    4) Visit http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=re...Kz1TdFUsArPmMA

    Thanks for the feedback. I'll give it a whirl.

    What exactly does ERROR 40000 mean anyways?

    Wouldn't we all like to know what a Microsoft error message means Seriously, it is a common problem with Turbine's launcher, usually caused by some issue with .NET. You don't see it much here, but if you search the LOTRO forums, you'll find a ton of posts associated with it, and not many solutions beyond what Theboz posted.

    My favorite MS message this week was when I was installing .NET 3.5sp1. The ".NET 3.5sp1 setup" popped up with a message saying I had to close the ".NET 3.5sp1 setup" before I could continue with the ".NET 3.5sp1 setup" Fortunately, they gave me an ignore button.

    Discovered this thread on the Lord of the Rings forums:

    http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=49855

    This just started happening over the last few days. Since it's been heppening I've also had terrible internet latency; Page Cannot Found when loading Google, etc. Comcast says "everything is fine" although the majority of those people are idiots. Flashing the modem takes longer to come back up then it used to and the latency is only gone for about 5-10 minutes.

    I've done some tests at dslreports which shows a good download speed but VERY high packet loss; 5-60 %!!

    The last time Comcast came to resolve issues they allegded "the coaxel cable that's running through your apartment is about 20-30 years old - it'll be $400 dollars if you want us to install new cable that will properly recieve our service." Quite ironic that Verizon was installing their fiber optics as a free community upgrade the very same day that the technician from Comcast was there.

    Also, I thought this is a Turbine Error and not related to MS products. Am I mistaken?

    p.s. I'll be switching internet provides within the next few weeks.

    The Turbine launcher is built on the .NET platform, which is a Microsoft runtime platform. The error message is likely specific to the launcher, not MS in general, but from my experience, error messages only mean something to the person that wrote that particular piece of code, and then only sometimes. If you know it well enough to expect an error there, you can usually code it well enough that the error doesn't occur.
