    Default Question about market

As I acquire some items that I'd like to sell, I find it hard to decide what to sell it for. I have noted in at least one other game, they will tell you what items recently sold for, but here, there is no record of what gets sold - only a listing of items currently for sale. Is this right?

This pretty much makes it impossible to know which items are valued and which are not. I find it hard to believe that a successful MMO does the market this way. What a pain . . . !

It seems to work pretty decent as it is, at least in my opinion. If you are unsure of an item's value, you can always post a price check thread here. For most items, I just post it at about 20% of the listed value on said item and put a buyout a bit above the listed value.

Ya, I hear ya. I'm terrible with the auction house. But that's because I don't spend as much time with it as maybe I should. Some would say that learning the tricks of the trade, as they say, is a big part of the entertainment. Many become auction house masters through trial/error, success/failure. Many, like me, will post an item and see it vanish within an hour. Obviously, way too low there. Or get things kicked back time and time again, having been priced poorly, or of no intrinsic value to anyone. If you're not interested in taking the time to explore the market, I'd suggest using the brokers in the Rusty Nail, House D, and House K for selling your unwanted/unneeded loot, and just using the auction house to purchase. That's pretty much what I do, and I'm okay with that. Yeah, I'm probably personally much poorer, both from not getting as much as I could when selling, and for impulse buying way too much on the auction house.... But I've also spent that time I've saved by questing more, theoretically....

I hear ya, but this formula will work for some items and not for others - thus my dilemma. Here are some things I THINK I have learned so far:
    - mnemonic potions are hot
    - wands of practically any type (except healing) are not
    - straight + weapons/armor are not
    - I thought 'true' weapons would be hot, but I posted what I thought was a good one, with starting bid at, say 50% and buyout at 125% - for 3 days - not even a nibble
    - of course anything with "puncturing" or "wounding" is ridiculous
    - scepters are not
    - multi-containers are hot (speaking of which - what is the deal on broken collapsible holes?)

. . . I am still trying to get the hang of this. Maybe I need to reverse how I approach this. Whatever I actually find in the AH - it is likely that those items are not selling - the ones that sell would have been sold already (unless I catch it right after it was posted).

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

First rule of thumb - if the item is not one you would want to use, then probably no one else wants it either, sell it to a vendor (ie most things with Vicious, or other useless prefixes and suffixes).

Clean Stat items and skill items are often quite worthwhile to post. *Clean means that the item is not encumbered with some other perk that merely serves to raise the minimum use level like disabling would be.

Simple elemental weapons with low level use sell all the time for double or more of list price. I will toss ANY elemental weapon I find on the AH with a start bid of 2X base and a Buyout of about 3X, and have sold 90+% of the ones so listed.

One thing to ALWAYS do is to put a reasonable BUYOUT price on anything that is even close to normal. When someone is looking to outfit a character, you want that item NOW, not in 3 days from now. Exceptions to this are the truely HIGH end items which are often worth tons of gold.

Mithril and Adamantine armors tend to sell pretty quickly too. Again, price them reasonably.

Underwater Action and Feather Fall items usually sell pretty well too.

Items with things like Sacred tend to gather dust, as do most items with thief bonuses unless they are clean.

Also you can get a premium, sometimes a LARGE premimum for items that are Racially restricted so that lower level character can use something not normally possible. However, you might also want to be using those items anyway.

The one other Wand that will sell is the Shield Wand, if it is enough levels to be worth using (ie last long enough per use to make using it worth the hassle for a UMD caster.)

    What Zenako said.

On wands, if I have a Firball 8th for example...I will put it on the AH for stating bid of about 20% of the actual listed (on the item) value. I'll put buyout at about 75% of that listed value. They usually sell. Now a Protection From Evil wand may not go like a wand of Force Missles, so like Zenako said, try to limit the items you post to things that you would deem good enough to use.

I save all of my Mnu pots. Good for use later or to pass to a caster/cleric when the chips are down and you need just a bit more mana to see the party through. Much better than getting a bit of plat for them.

As also noted, aset of +1 Dex Gloves is much more sought after than +1 Dex Gloves of Performing +3. Rings also tend to command more $ than other slots.

Yeah, I'm thrifty. I figure I can make a bit more and someone out there (probably someone who isn't supa-ubah) will get a decent deal. Win-Win.

Plus, I'm saving up for a w/p rapier for JohnDenver. At this rate, I think I'll be able to afford one in 7.3 years.

Anything I am selling I just send to my 61 haggle bard...worth the extra time for anything of decent worth, even with mailing fees. One can almost double their money by doing stuff like this. I also have the Bard buy the consumables in large lots as well.
