First Timer. Character Screen Locks.

Hello, sorry to bug you guys, but I'm new to this whole thing and just want to get the game working.

Loaded up the game. It downloaded all updates, etc. My computer has all recommended requirements and broadband connection.

Can log in and launch game fine. Once logged in I see something that says Devourer and underneath Keeper. Are these names of servers? It's the only two things I can click on.

I can click on either one, press the 'lets play' button and it loads up to the character generation screen.

This is where the game just freezes. Mouse pointer doesn't move. The only way to get off the screen is to shut down my computer and reboot.

I have my firewall turned off. I've been reading the Tech Help and once I get off work I'm going to make sure my drivers for my video card are up to date.

Is there anything else I should try to do? I've been reading about some Microsoft .NET and service pack 2. Should I make sure that's up to date as well?

Any other help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to making a character and actually playing.

Sounds like you are on the European servers. If so, you may want to try the Euro boards, these are the American boards. If not, then you are seeing servers that we have never seen on this side of the Atlantic...

Well, that's not good. heh. I'm in the US. OH. A buddy told me to make a character on the Argonnesan server. But I only get those two I mentioned before. So I guess those are the server names.

Very odd, I'm in OH as well and the standard servers are:
Argonessan
Sarlona
Khyber
Thelanis
Ghallanda

You very well may have downloaded the client from the Euro boards instead of the US boards...

Thanks for the link and what I should be able to see. I'll be trying it here in about an hour.

I bought the game at Microcenter. Downloaded from the disk and then when the game launched it basically downloaded the rest on it's own. It was a lot. A little over 13,000 updates. So not sure why I see these other servers. I'm hoping when I get off work here that when I try to log in it will be all magically fixed. heh.

I'll try that link though. I'm hoping that it's freezing because the servers I see wouldn't work for me.

Ok, now thats funny and sad if the disks they have at microcenter are the Euro client disks. Especially since I was touting that they had so many disks available earlier in the week...

You're absolutely right. I just checked the box. It's the UK edition. Great. I just uninstalled everything. Deleted all accounts and bought the US download version and created a new turbine account. So hopefully everything goes smoothly this time after everything's downloaded.

So ya, I bet we both went to the same Microcenter on Bethel Rd. That aggravates me that I took 6+ hours to try and get this working and it's the UK version.

NP, going to make a trip to Microcenter and let them know they need to get a different version on the shelves, that the one they have will not work for US servers.
