I need examples.
Been in one guild since the game opened. Is it just grass is greener or do peoples DDO egos get to big?
I need someone to break it down.

There's no 1 reason.
Could be a number of factors.
Maybe some players that someone is used to play with in a guild quit game, and that person doesn't run with people he knows any more.
Maybe simply pugging a lot and meet some people in another guild that person groups with more.
Who knows? Tons of reasons.

Dont know why they join, don't know why they leave - just game
I've been in my small 2 man guild since I got into game. I think what happens is the way people play changes over time.....playstyles don't match.....but the real killer seems to be DRAMA. I got buddies in large guilds and that's all they talk about. People complaining about raid loot, being left out of groups, or bringing a bad image to the guild itself. I mean I'd rather stay where I am than join a bigger guild any day.....sure they get riads done quicker and more often....but not worth the pain I think.

Lots of reasons. congratz on having a good guild where your numbers have stayed strong and there is apparently no internal drama. Not everyone is so lucky so they go where they can find people to play with.

many reasons...
- 'grass is always greener' syndrome
- personal issues with people in the guild
- friends in other guilds
- just for a change
- rolling alts and having different grouping requirements e.g. lowbie guild.
I've seen all of the above happen

Egos, switching playtimes, changing playstyle, new friendships, good ole membership pirating (courting someone guilded to join your guild ), changing atmosphere in the former guild, former guild growing too much and changing in nature, etc etc.
Devs: Thanks for making Druids available to VIPs without the pack. This more than anything, has made me want to buy the pack.
I agree with Soup, smaller=less drama.
There are times we get on each others nerves,(God that Wickie and his stupid kill count) but it works ok.

We're talking about guilds, right? Not spouses?

A forum post should be like a skirt - long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.

Hey! I like Wickies kill counting.
Guild Killers?
Drama - Different Play Styles ID'd after joining Guild (usually not knowing how eachother roll) - Drama - Abuse of Power (Leaders, Officers and "Influential types") - Drama - and many others for sure, some people just like spreading themselves out and I guess that's ok for them, but usually not for the Guild. (Some exceptions apply)

Well going from personal experiance I changed my former guild to the current one because I slowly started to feel out of the main loop of the members of my previous guild. This wasnt on purpose mind you but they all know each other personally, they attend live events together. Me I joined them because they are very nice people easy going friendly and no drama. But after 6 months on one girl who was just shy of 16 holding off because I couldnt group with them if I kept going, sitting 20 points from 1750 and not getting to see any of the new content got to be too much.
After pugging and running with several other guilds all who had shown me fun times I settled down with my new guild and its been a lot of fun. I still run with other guilds to but I know with this group I have something to do we watch each others backs and generally have a good time. And who doesnt like drunken raids? ^_^

Guilds are guilds, they all go through times of prosperity, they all go through times when peeps leave and the reasons peeps leave are various.

we started out with 5 guys who were on every night at the same time.....4 RL friends and 1 guy we meet in game. Well around MOD 5 we lost 3 of em. Me and Sam talked alot about joining a larger guild.....just didn't make sense. I mean we do the same thing larger guilds do(raids), we never have a problem either forming or getting into groups and we like the freedom of not havng to do what anyone wants us to do but us.
Sure we have to PUG alot...we don't get completions as quick as a raiding guild...we have to deal with said members of larger guilds joining us and telling us how they run said quest or raid. So see we even deal with the drama of other guilds...some on our server are pretty tight though....I think NSR being the one that REALLY does get along pretty good. I see the same faces with the same guild tag from them.....others not so much.

DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA!!!!!!
Internet relationships have no accountability. So, somebody that would normally get their ass kicked in the real world for their behavior gets to do whatever they want in game with little repercussions. If that person has one friend in the guild that is popular, the drama begins.
There's a ton of reasons drama exists. The number one reason is ego though. Guilds are teams. When one person loses the "team" mentality, then drama ensues.

Finding that I'm in a guild with too many people who lack the ability to realize that it's just a game and that there's a big difference between our little avatars in the game and us. Too many people take it all waaaaaaaaay to seriously (e.g., it all has to be done exactly perfectly or it's no good), and I have no patience for that.
Eh i know i tend to like smaller guilds and will get the itch to simplify if a guild gets too large.

we had one guy join our guild and since day one he did nothing but beg for items from the guildies , they gave him alot of good stuff and then he left and joined another and did the same thing , he is one example of someone who cant go and play to get the items for himself just sits there 6 hours a night and begs , hes not our problem anymore but i do feel sorry for the guild hes in now
